A person familiar with the deal says the Nashville Predators have acquired center Paul Gaustad in a trade with the Buffalo Sabres.
USA Today and TSN first reported the trade, which was reached shortly before Monday’s NHL trade deadline.
The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the trade had not been officially announced. Specific details of the trade — including what the Sabres acquired in return — were not immediately available.
In his seventh full NHL season, Gaustad is a reliable checking forward and a good face-off specialist. He proved expendable in Buffalo because he is in the final year of his contract and eligible to be an unrestricted free agent this summer.
Gaustad has seven goals and 10 assists in 56 games this season.
