Minnesota Wild to use Prince's 'Let's Go Crazy' as new goal song

The Minnesota Wild announced on Tuesday that they will be using Prince's "Let's Go Crazy" as their full-time goal song during home games at Xcel Energy Center starting this season.

Following Prince's passing in April, the Wild used the hit track as their goal song during a playoff game to honor the rock icon, a Minnesota native. The decision was extremely well-received by fans so, this summer, the team sent a letter to season ticket holders asking for feedback on a possible full-time change. Not surprisingly, many were in favor of the move.

“Our in-arena experience is designed for the fans, so it’s great to be able to show them we take their feedback to heart,” said John Maher, VP of brand, content and communications for the Wild. “At the same time, it’s our privilege to celebrate an iconic hometown artist that clearly has had an incredible impact on our community and the world.”

This seemed like a no-brainer for the Wild. Not only does the track honor a hometown legend, but it also simply makes for a really awesome goal song. It seems like there are too many tired, generic jock jam goal songs these days, so to see NHL teams think outside the box is encouraging. In the past few years alone we've seen the Sabres spin DJ Kool's "Let Me Clear My Throat," the Penguins blast Andrew W.K.'s "Party Hard" and now the Wild are going to get crazy to Prince. I like where this is headed.
