Hockey player uses amazingly lucky deflection to score overtime goal in playoff game

A Swedish Hockey League playoff game came to a wild ending on Monday night with an overtime goal that's as lucky as it is impressive.

Here's the highlight in question, which comes from Game 6 of the series between Frölunda HC and Skelleftea:

That's Frölunda forward Nicklas Lasu who banks his shot off a stick laying on the ice to beat the goaltender for the 2-1 win in the extra frame. As you can see in the replay, a Frölunda player knocks the stick out of the hands of a Skelleftea player before Lasu gets the puck and proceeds to use the driftwood as a backboard.

It looks like Lasu intentionally threw the puck off of the stick hoping for the best, but it still requires a huge amount of luck for this play to actually work out as well as it did.

After the game, Lasu said he had been training hard to pull off that move. We'll have to assume to he was joking.

Not only was a unique goal, it was also an incredibly important one. The game-winner game in Game 6 forces a do-or-die Game 7 matchup between Frölunda and Skelleftea with a spot on the SHL semi-finals on the line.
