Boogaard’s brother charged

An attorney for the man charged with contributing to the death of his NHL player brother Derek Boogaard says his client remains devastated by the death.

Attorney John Lundquist released a statement Friday on behalf of 24-year-old Aaron Boogaard.

Lundquist says Boogaard has been released from custody by both Hennepin County and U.S. immigration authorities and is with his family. Boogaard is Canadian.

Aaron Boogaard was charged Friday with unlawful distribution of a controlled substance, a felony.

Prosecutors allege Aaron Boogaard gave his brother one pill of a narcotic painkiller the day before Derek Boogaard was found dead in his Minneapolis apartment.

He died of what authorities ruled was a toxic mix of alcohol and drugs.
