Hockey team giving away burial plots
Hockey fans often root for overtime when they show up to watch their favorite teams play. I mean, who doesn’t love bonus hockey?
But in the case of one minor league team, sudden death is the last thing fans want — at least when it comes to cashing in on the club’s unique new giveaway.
On Jan. 31, when the team hosts the Utah Grizzlies, one lucky fan will receive two burial plots — to be used on whomever they choose — at a local cemetery.
The team’s president, Matthew Riley, told Yahoo’s Puck Daddy blog that the team was inspired by a funeral giveaway at a minor league baseball game, but couldn’t find a funeral home to accommodate a similar promotion, so they went with the next best thing.
It’s not the first time the Condors have taken an oddball approach to the traditional door prize, though.
The Condors are also giving away free mohawk wigs at a game in December and hockey puck-shaped soap in March, in addition to hosting a hairiest back contest at a different game next spring. But the weirdest prize they're giving away, by far, is the burial plot.
Said Riley: “Hopefully whoever wins it won’t need to (use it) for a while.”
