The club announced that Wright was leaving on Monday, a day after he helped the team pick eight players in the NHL draft.
Wright was selected by the club in the 2000 expansion draft and played 309 games as a Blue Jacket, scoring 57 goals with 51 assists and 436 penalty minutes. He rejoined the organization in July 2007 as development coach and has served as one of the club's directors of amateur scouting, along with Paul Castron, since August 2011.
In a statement, Wright said it was a difficult decision but he felt the time was right to move on.
