Senators-Kings Preview

The Ottawa Senators and Los Angeles Kings were both handed disappointing losses over the weekend.

While the Senators could have a hard time regrouping given their lack of road success in this series, the Kings haven't been able to get much going at home of late.

Ottawa looks for just its second win in 13 all-time visits to Los Angeles when it faces a Kings team hoping to avoid a season-worst fourth consecutive defeat on its own ice Monday night.

Sitting in second place in the Northeast Division, the Senators (27-17-6) entered Saturday having gone 10-1-1 over their previous 12 games - including their first five-game road winning streak in almost two years.

But after beginning its current stretch of six straight away from home with back-to-back victories, Ottawa failed to carry the momentum into its matchup at Anaheim, falling 2-1. The Senators didn't get on the board until Chris Neil scored midway through the third period.

"It would have been nice to score another one to tie it up and send it into overtime, but you can't expect to play just 20 minutes in the third period and win a hockey game," Neil said.

Ottawa, which hasn't suffered consecutive road defeats in regulation since Nov. 1-11, may not be looking forward to visiting Los Angeles (23-16-10). The Senators have been outscored 54-24 in going 1-10-0 with one tie all-time on the road versus the Kings.

Los Angeles, though, has scuffled a bit recently at Staples Center, where it's gone 1-2-2 over its last five. It has been limited to one goal or none in five of its last seven at home.

After earning at least one point in 15 of 16 overall, the Kings fell 3-1 to visiting Colorado on Saturday. Anze Kopitar put Los Angeles up 1-0 early in the second period before Jonathan Quick, who made 28 saves, surrendered three unanswered goals.

Quick dropped to 5-2-4 over his last 11 despite a tremendous 1.41 goals-against average in that stretch. The Kings have scored two goals or fewer in 20 of Quick's 21 losses this season.

"I know he's frustrated, obviously, that we're not scoring goals and supporting him," said forward Justin Williams, who has three goals and six assists over a seven-game point streak. "I'm sure he'll never say that, but we have to do that for him - as well as play good defense."

The Kings were outshot 31-26 by the Avalanche after getting off just four shots over the first 20 minutes.

"It's hard to get shots when you don't have everyone playing the right way," captain Dustin Brown said. "It's going to take 20 guys. (Saturday) I don't think we had 20. I'm sure it will be clear on video, but we need more. (Saturday) we had some good lines, but you need four lines if you want to win games in this league."

Los Angeles' top line of Kopitar, Brown and Williams has 10 goals and 13 assists in the last seven games. The rest of the team has scored just eight times.

Quick, 2-1-0 with a 2.02 GAA against the Senators, figures to face Craig Anderson, who has started 12 straight for Ottawa. Anderson is 10-2-1 with a 1.69 GAA over his last 13 outings - during which he's allowed more than two goals just twice.

Anderson, though, surrendered a combined 11 goals in his two most recent meetings with the Kings while with Colorado. He is 1-5-3 with a 3.61 GAA in nine career starts versus Los Angeles.
