Montreal mayor has tiff with Habs

New Montreal mayor has public tiff with Canadiens.

The Montreal Canadiens don't appreciate the hockey commentary coming from the city's new mayor.

Denis Coderre, who was elected Nov. 3, tweeted during Sunday's win over the Islanders: ''Hello? Can we get a one-way ticket to Hamilton for David Desharnais please...''

It was a rather run-of-the-mill remark for a regular fan, many of whom have criticized the play of the struggling forward. But this came from a government official, and the team pushed back Monday.

Forward Max Pacioretty calls the comment embarrassing. Josh Gorges says it's wrong to kick someone when they're down.

Coach Michel Therrien says: ''I really believe this is inappropriate from our mayor.''

In Coderre's first week, he has already had a run-in with the Parti Quebecois provincial government over its religion charter and with the powerful mayor of Quebec City over a perceived slight. He also encouraged embattled Toronto Mayor Rob Ford to switch to Diet Coke.
