The trade deadline is such an exciting time. For hockey gurus, this may be one of the most exciting times of the year. But with so many different players involved in trade rumors, it may become difficult to keep track of all the names flying about. This is an effort to make life simpler. Here's a breakdown of all the trade rumors, so you, the crazed hockey fan, can be that much more informed: , Los Angeles The basis of the rumors surrounding Yushky is his contract status. The defenseman will become an unrestricted free agent at season's end and has been said to be seeking a hefty contract in the range of the massive, $27 million contract signed by . If this is true, the will not be able to afford him. Various reports have him headed to the and Leafs among others. However, Leafs management, namely Pat Quinn and Bill Watters, hates to deal with Yushkevich's agent, Mark Gandler. This was the reason they first dealt Yushky to the for . Don't expect Yushkevich to be wearing the blue and white this season. , Nashville Come March 11, teams in playoff contention will be seeking a veteran defenseman in order to fill out their rosters. Houlder has been a solid D-man for the , but Nashville might want to replace him with someone a little younger. So far this season, Houlder has been playing about 20 minutes per game. , San Jose It seems strange that a team would trade an Olympic gold-medal winner, but his contract may be the deciding factor here. Some say that the are desperate to get rid of him because of his $5.5 million-per-year contract. Since power forwards are in such short supply, however, Nolan would attract a lot of attention if he were, in fact, on the market. , Calgary Calgary is in no rush to trade Drury. He is a clutch scorer and, as such, will not be traded. , Calgary If is traded, it will be because of money. Despite his contract being only $13 million over two years (relatively small for a reigning Richard-Pearson-Ross winner), it is extremely large for a small-market club like Calgary. The financial picture in Calgary, however, is not nearly as bad as that in Pittsburgh, and GM Craig Button has publicly stated he would not "sell" Iginla as Pittsburgh did . Button also claimed he was not looking to trade Iginla before the deadline, but he may just be looking to calm fans. When people think of the Calgary , they think of Iginla. He is their star player. Without him they are nothing. , Calgary According to various reports, Calgary is unhappy with the play of Turek, who signed a four-year deal at about $4 million per year prior to this season. However, given the microscopic market for goaltenders this season, Turek may not be dealt. The deal being suggested has Turek and Iginla headed to the for , , and , with the "reluctantly" accepting Turek. , Phoenix While the specifics were not mentioned, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that Burke could be dealt to the for . Phoenix GM Mike Barnett vehemently denied this and called Burke the "team MVP." Do not expect Phoenix to trade Burke. If Phoenix will trade any goalie, it will be ; although, his name has not been mentioned at all so it may seem that Phoenix will keep its three goalies on the active roster, Zak Bierk being the other. , St. Louis See above.. , Los Angeles Felix has rebounded very nicely since his stints in Vancouver and Long Island. Felix is set to become a free agent after this season though, and the may attempt to send him to a playoff contender looking for a rental. My bet: He will stay right where he is and sign a contract extension in the summer. , Tampa Bay Don't believe for a second the rumors pervading the media about the "Bulin Wall." He is the perfect starter for the and, if traded, fans will have little left for which to cheer. Therefore, I'll go on record saying that the "Bulin Wall" will not be traded. , San Jose Another veteran defenseman who will be sought after by many. His tough skin and devastating hip-checks will attract a lot of attention. San Jose is nearly out of the playoff race, ranking 13th in the Western Conference and is 12 points behind eighth place Edmonton for the final playoff spot but only three points ahead of 15th (last) place Calgary at 50 points. His enormous presence along the blue line would be a huge lift for any playoff hopefuls. The Leafs are one team mentioned in the bidding. , Los Angeles Palffy is one offensive dynamo. He is every bit as good as Kovalev. However, the have been suggesting to the media that they do not have the money to support so many star-quality players anymore. This is where the media began speculating. Palffy has a $7 million-per-year contract and it would be the only real factor in a trade involving Palffy. Then again, it's a bit of a Catch-22. You see, the reason the want to shop Palffy is his enormous contract, yet, it will hinder any trade talks. However, developments in the last few days have dispelled all speculation on his trade status. Palffy has stated his wishes to remain a King and his agent was "reasonably assured" by GM Dave Taylor that a contract extension would be forthcoming. In addition, coach Andy Murray stated that both Palffy and would not be traded. , Los Angeles See above. , New Jersey It was conjectured that Gomez could be sent to Columbus for both and . The New York Post reported this trade but noted that the will be lacking at the center position should leave via free agency and that they would not trade one center for another. Regardless, this trade would be beneficial for the as Sanderson and Cassels are more than enough compensation for just Gomez. Don't bet on this one. , Columbus See above. , Columbus See above. , Montreal On Feb. 21, Brisebois waived his no-trade clause, which suggests that he will likely be traded before the March 11 deadline. For Brisebois, it has been a long and painful career with the . The fans hate him, the media nails him, and his teammates despise him. Add that all together in addition to his unscheduled trip to Paris and you have a trade waiting to happen. For "Breeze-By," it will be a welcome change if he were to be traded. One obstacle in any potential trade is the size of his contract. He currently makes $4 million a year so; in all likelihood, Montreal will have to swallow some of his pay. Potential destinations are few, as teams look for defensemen who are solid defensively but there may be a market for him somewhere. Upon searching through the standings, it appears the two most likely destinations are Colorado and Toronto, with New York unlikely but still a possibility. Colorado and Toronto both could use extra offense and New York just loves offense. I would predict, however, that they would have a lot of trouble moving him before the deadline. , Los Angeles Miller is a superb defensive defenseman and an important cog for L.A. Again, money matters and his $1.7 million contract does little to keep him in L.A. If he is available, many teams will be in the running for his services. , Buffalo General manager Darcy Regier has firmly avowed that neither Satan nor would be traded before a new owner purchases the . , Buffalo See above. , Philadelphia For about two years, the media has suggested that the organization is upset with the play of Cechmanek, despite his sparkling statistics, and he could be replaced by , who has played well in limited playing time, or someone like or . But given the fact that his statistics are fabulous and the fact that these rumors have been going on almost since his arrival, I would say that it's unlikely he will be moved or demoted to backup. I have a hunch that many people in the media, and on his own team, have a definite hate or dislike for . , Phoenix Every year around this time, the Detroit begin their search for the last piece of the puzzle, which is usually a veteran defenseman. This year they have targeted Numminen. Phoenix, despite signing big-ticket free agent , has shown an inability to support a big-market hockey club. Numminen may soon become expendable, despite his captainship, because of his $4.75 million annual contract. Phoenix may also look to rebuild its club once again on a foundation of youth and that may play into any trade involving Numminen. One important thing to remember, Numminen has to wanted to leave Phoenix. In his contract, there is a no-trade clause, which means of course that he can veto any trade including him. Numminen has played his entire career (15 seasons) with the Phoenix/Winnipeg organization. This could mean that he might want to simply stay with Phoenix instead of heading to Detroit in search of the Stanley Cup. It's all up to Teppo. , Carolina Wesley becomes an unrestricted free agent at season's end and that is the entire basis of this rumor. He will attract attention from a number of playoff teams but will likely net only a draft pick or an AHL'er. Wesley had a no-trade clause in his contract but waived it on Feb. 21. , Florida All season long, Huselius and coach Mike Keenan have been at each other's throats. Huselius' style of play differs from that which Keenan envisions and Keenan's coaching style contrasts the style of play employed by Huselius. However, general manager Rick Dudley does not wish to trade Huselius. We'll see what happens. , Calgary Any rumors that have been reported regarding Boughner refuse to elaborate at all on why he might be moved and to which team he would be moved. He is often listed with a number of other players, notably . As for destinations, it could be anyone seeking a veteran defenseman to fill out the ranks — which means pretty much everyone. , New Jersey Tverdovsky is currently suffering the effects of post-concussion syndrome, and if he does not return to action before the deadline, he will not be moved. The newest addition to our Canadian Royal Family of Hockey, The Lord of the Rinks (a.k.a. Tyler Norwood) comes to FOXSports.com by way of the small town of Stouffville, Ontario, just north of a little town called Toronto.
