Flyers-Avalanche Preview

Impressive scoring depth and growing confidence has the Philadelphia Flyers rolling into 2014.

A daunting road trip hasn't slowed them yet.

The Flyers go for their longest winning streak in almost two years Thursday night, when they try to beat the Colorado Avalanche on the road for the first time in over 11.

Philadelphia (20-16-4) is 6-1-1 in its last eight, including four straight wins to put it on the brink of its first five-game run since March 1-10, 2012.

The current streak includes 14 goals with at least one coming from seven players, while 14 have managed to register at least one point.

That depth was on display Tuesday, as four different players scored in a 4-1 win at Calgary despite the team's top line being held without a point. Brayden Schenn had a goal and two assists for the Flyers, who have won on the first three stops of this six-game trip after going 2-6-3 in their previous 11 away games.

"I think our team's real confident right now," coach Craig Berube told the team's official website. "I think they believe they can win games whether they have their best stuff or not. They're finding ways to win because they're a confident team right now."

Schenn has goals in each of his last two games after going 16 contests without one.

"It helps," Berube said of Schenn's recent performances. "Guys that score goals, they lose their confidence when they don't score. You get a goal, it gets you going a little bit."

Scott Hartnell may agree with Berube, scoring twice in three games after coming up empty in nine straight. His eight goals match his total from last season, but are a far cry from the career-high 37 he had in 2011-12.

"It can't be (Claude Giroux) every night. It can't be Vinny (Lecavalier) every night," Hartnell said. "You have to spread the wealth around."

Wayne Simmonds, the team leader with 12 goals, has seven to go with four assists in seven games.

The Flyers have lost five straight visits to Denver since a 2-1 victory on Dec. 27, 2002. They fell 3-2 in a shootout in the most recent road meeting with the Avalanche on Dec. 19, 2011.

Colorado (24-11-4) is looking to win back-to-back games for the first time since Nov. 29-30.

The power play was successful on all three attempts as the Avalanche ended a four-game skid with a 5-3 win over Columbus on Tuesday.

The unit is 7 for 15 over the past six games after a 1-for-37 stretch in the prior 12.

"It has been so-so all year," captain Gabriel Landeskog said. "But we've worked on it. We moved the puck around and it worked. We had some good opportunities and then we opened it up."

Landeskog has three goals and two assists over the past four games, exceeding his point total over the previous 11 contests by one. He had a goal in the most recent meeting with Philadelphia.

Matt Duchene got back on the score sheet with two assists against the Blue Jackets, giving him 15 points in 10 games. The center leads the Avalanche with 16 goals and 36 points, but he's managed only an assist in three games versus the Flyers.
