Ducks 3, Kings 1
LOS ANGELES (AP)
The Ducks prevailed (2-3) despite having only a few regulars in the lineup.
Anaheim goalie Jeff Deslauriers made 32 saves. Jonathan Quick made 15 saves for the Kings.
''They had a fairly strong lineup dressed, so I think our guys took it more as a challenge that we weren't going to outskill them,'' Anaheim coach Randy Carlyle said.
''They had more skill than we did in the lineup. That's no disrespect to our players. But the fact is we just tried to go out and play that workmanlike game and play with that tenacity that's necessary.''
Gordon dug out a rebound from the corner and slipped a backhand under Quick's right pad at 19:20. Maroon scored on a wraparound at 19:31.
Andrei Loktionov scored on a breakaway in the third for the Kings after an ill-advised pass by Luca Sbisa in the Ducks' end created a turnover.
The Kings went 0 for 6 on the power play.
Kings coach Terry Murray said a reason for the loss was having several new players in the lineup together for the first time.
Offseason acquisitions Mike Richards and Simon Gagne played with captain Dustin Brown on the second line and the three were a combined minus-6.
''You look at the (Ducks') lineup and you think they have a 'B' team right now and maybe you think it's going to be easier and maybe that's why we started the game the way we did,'' Gagne said. ''But it's not an excuse even if it's preseason.''
Kings right wing Kevin Westgarth left the game after he took a punch from Brian McGrattan in a second-period fight and did not return. Murray said Westgarth will be evaluated Monday.
Ducks left wing J.F. Jacques served a one-game suspension for an instigator penalty he incurred on Saturday against Vancouver.
