Carolina re-signs Erik Cole

Cole, 24, played in just 53 games last year due to a broken left leg that sidelined him for the last 29 contests of the season. He still finished sixth on the team in scoring with 14 goals and 13 assists.
"Erik is working hard and is 100 percent healthy," said president/general manager Jim Rutherford. "He is one of our key forwards who plays an important leadership role. He will make a difference in the success of this team."
The 6-2, 200-pounder will be entering his third NHL season. For his career he has registered 30 goals and 37 assists in 134 games. Cole was a vital member of Carolina's 2001-02 team that reached the Stanley Cup Finals. During the postseason, the Oswego, NY native had six goals and nine points.
