The St. Louis Blues are expected to be without leading scorer Alexander Steen on Monday night in Calgary as they go for a third straight win.

Steen didn't play in the third period of the Blues' 6-0 win at Edmonton on Saturday after suffering an upper-body injury. The Blues (24-7-4) recalled forward Dmitrij Jaskin on Sunday from AHL Chicago, and with St. Louis not having another game until Saturday, Steen is expected to sit Monday.

The Blues didn't miss him against the Oilers. After being outshot 14-5 in the first period, St. Louis buried Edmonton with four third-period goals. Chris Stewart scored two of his three in the final 20 minutes.

"They came out strong and we weathered the storm and scored one," goaltender Brian Elliott said. "Then we settled into what we wanted to do in the second. We wanted to finish out with a good 20 minutes in the third. We were getting guys making plays, and obviously Stewart scoring three definitely helps on a night like tonight."

Stewart added an assist and has eight goals in his last six games after scoring five in his first 29.

"I kind of had a rough start to the year, and I told myself I wasn't going to pass up any more opportunities in the slot, I'm going to shoot to score, and it's been working out as of late," Stewart said. "It's the same shots as earlier in the year, but there's some eyes on them now."

Elliott made 23 saves to earn his second shutout of the season. He's made four starts in the last seven games after starting a total of six times in October and November.

Elliott has a 1.00 goals-against average in winning his last three starts against the Flames, including a 3-2 home victory on Nov. 7.

With 11 goals in the last two games, the offense has been producing plenty despite an uncertain lineup.

St. Louis just got No. 2 scorer David Backes back from a two-game absence due to a concussion, and Jaden Schwartz has scored in consecutive games after missing two with an upper-body injury.

Losing Steen, who just agreed to a three-year contract extension on Thursday, could be a little more impactful. The Blues are 17-0-2 this season when he scores and 7-7-2 when he doesn't. They last lost a game in regulation with him scoring on Feb. 11 of last season.

The Flames (13-17-6) have dropped four straight and closed out a 1-2-2 Eastern Conference swing with a 4-3 loss at Pittsburgh on Saturday.

They also got banged up with forward Curtis Glencross and defenseman Kris Russell both leaving with lower-body injuries. Glencross was placed on injured reserve Sunday and Russell won't play against the Blues, so Calgary recalled Derek Smith from AHL Abbotsford.

"They're two great leaders, but at the same time, there's nothing we can do about injuries," coach Bob Hartley told the team's official website. "Unfortunately, it's part of our game and it's going to give opportunities to two more players to step in and get good chunks of ice time and get the job done. So, it's all about character right now."

Calgary was unable to dig out of a 2-0 first-period hole against the Penguins, but got goals from Paul Byron, Michael Cammalleri and Jiri Hudler.

The Blues will be the first of five visitors on the Flames' homestand. They've won five of their last six against Calgary.
