Blackhawks-Canucks Preview

The Vancouver Canucks are done answering questions about a losing streak, and Daniel Sedin is finished talking about his run of games without recording a point.

Sedin and the Canucks will try to get back to a winning streak Saturday night against the Chicago Blackhawks, who haven't handed Vancouver a regulation loss in two years.

The Canucks ended a five-game winless run Friday with a 6-2 home victory over Columbus. They came in having scored a total of six goals during the 0-3-2 stretch, their longest since an 0-5-3 mark from Jan. 9-31, 2009.

Sedin had gone six games without a point before his first-period goal. It was his longest such streak since a 10-game run in 2002-03. He ended the night with a goal and two assists and has five points in his last two against the Blackhawks.

"Six games feels like forever," Sedin told the team's official website. "We keep saying it's about the process but in the end it's about scoring, we know that, especially when there have been games we are losing 2-1, it's tight, or we are going into overtime or losing in a shootout. One goal can mean so much for this team right now and that's why it's been frustrating."

Henrik Sedin scored twice and has three goals in his last three games after going 10 straight without one. He has five points in his last three against Chicago, which hasn't beaten the Canucks in regulation since Nov. 16, 2011.

Canucks goaltender Roberto Luongo faced just 16 shots against the Blue Jackets. Luongo is 3-0-1 with a 1.42 goals-against average and .956 save percentage in his last four starts against Chicago while facing an average of 34.3 shots.

Luongo wouldn't say after the game if he'll be starting Saturday.

The power play continues to be an issue for the Canucks (12-8-4). An 0-for-4 night dropped them to 29th in the NHL at 10.7 percent. The Chicago penalty kill has been just as bad, ranking 29th at 72.7 percent, while the Canucks are first at 88.9.

Vancouver is 3-0-2 in its last five against the Blackhawks and has won seven of the last nine between the two teams at Rogers Arena.

The Blackhawks (15-4-4) continued their recent erratic one-step-forward, one-step-back routine with Thursday's 6-3 win at Winnipeg. They've gone 2-2-0 in their last four with alternating results, and each game has been decided by three goals or more with a minus-9 differential in the two losses.

The win followed Tuesday's 5-1 loss at Colorado, which kicked off a season-high seven-game road trip.

"I really liked the way we played," Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville told the team's official website. "I thought that we answered the bell at the start of the game and answered the bell when they had their run there in the second."

Jonathan Toews had a goal and three assists, while Marian Hossa returned from a three-game absence due to a lower-body injury with a goal and an assist.

"That's one thing about Hossa," Quenneville said. "He plays the right way. He's very consistent and predictable, and you expect him to play that way game in and game out, and he didn't miss a beat."

Patrick Kane also had a goal and an assist to extend his point streak to nine. He has four multi-point games in that span and leads the team with 12 goals and 24 points.

The Blackhawks' 3.56 goals per game leads the league.

Chicago announced Thursday that forward Bryan Bickell would miss the remainder of the trip after sitting out the Winnipeg game with a lower-body injury.
