(.720) The Caps opened Week 8 up by getting shut out for the second time in three games, but the club bounced back by week's end, picking up three wins in a row. Alexander Semin netted four goals in Washington's three wins, including his sixth career NHL hat trick.

(.636) The Blue Jackets started off Week 8 by winning their first two games on the slate, extending their winning streak to a season-high five games. But an unproductive power play helped put an end to that streak, as Columbus closed out the week with two straight losses where the team only connected once on 12 extra-man chances.

(.614) The Stars also made a major leap into the top 10 in the rankings by winning three of the four games they played. The Dallas goaltenders were razor sharp in the team's three wins, only allowing four of the 82 shots they faced in the three wins to get by them.

(.614) By splitting the two games they played last week, the Coyotes were able to do just enough to keep hold of the No. 10 spot in the rankings. Ilya Bryzgalov earned his 17th career NHL shutout by stopping everything fired his way Tuesday night in a 5-0 win over Edmonton.

(.591) Antti Niemi's win over his former team in Week 8 helped the Sharks put a three-game losing streak to bed. In his first game against the Blackhawks since leading them to a Cup championship last year, Niemi turned away 30 of the 32 shots he faced in San Jose's 5-2 victory.

(.580) Thanks to some solid play by their goaltenders, the Rangers were able to skate away with three wins in four games. Last Friday night, Henrik Lundqvist turned in a stellar performance between the pipes for New York when he didn't allow any of the Panthers 40 shots to get behind him in a 3-0 road win in Florida.

(.545) The Minnesota defense was nowhere to be found last week in the team's two losses, allowing the opposition to fire 68 shots at their net. Niklas Backstrom was just as bad, giving up 13 goals on 66 chances before getting pulled in a 7-4 loss Saturday night in Colorado.

(.479) Ottawa lost two of the four games it played in Week 8, but had its power play showed up in its two one-goal losses the results could have been different. The Senators failed to bury any of the five power-play chances in back-to-back losses to the Stars and Penguins.

(.455) By losing three of the four games they played last week, the Panthers dropped three places in the rankings. Stephen Weiss led the Cats to their only win in Week 8 when he scored in the fourth round of a shootout to help Florida down the Lightning 4-3 Saturday night in Tampa Bay.

(.432) The Maple Leafs come into Week 9 with the fourth-worst offense in the league. Toronto's inability to score played a major roll in the team's two losses last week. In back-to-back losses to the Sabres and Senators, the Leafs only put the biscuit in the basket once on 56 chances.

(.375) The Devils put an end to their three-game losing streak from Week 7 by winning three of four last week. Johan Hedberg was impressive between the posts, recording three wins in his four starts, including his 15th career shutout in a 5-0 win over first-place Washington.

(.364) Week 8 was a tale of two goalies for Edmonton. Youngster Devan Dubnyk lost both of his starts for the Oilers, giving up nine goals in his two starts. Veteran Martin Gerber was the exact opposite, winning both of his turns between the iron, where he only allowed the opposition to score three times on 60 shots.

(.341) The big news out of Week 8 was that the Islanders finally put an end to their lengthy losing streak. Rick DiPietro helped New York close the door on its 14-game losing streak by turning away everything the Devils threw his way in 2-0 win at the Nassau Coliseum last Friday.
