News: Malkin scored a goal and added an assist, both of which came on the power play, in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Islanders. His point streak stands at four games and seven points (two goals, five assists). Impact: He finally started to fire the puck on Saturday night, something he'd struggled to do thus far. His five shots doubled his season total to this point. We can't help but wonder if that undisclosed injury that has forced him onto the wing has something to do with his wrist. It bears watching for sure.(RotoWire, )

News: Malkin is expected to skate at right wing for at least the next two games. Impact: Coach Mike Johnston said Wednesday that he could keep the team's top two lines intact until Beau Bennett returns, likely at some point in November. At that time, Malkin could move back to center on the second line, with Brandon Sutter sliding down to serve as a third-line middle man. Despite missing all of training camp, Malkin has scored a goal and assisted on three others in Pittsburgh's first two contests.(RotoWire, )

News: Malkin netted his first goal of the season Saturday while picking up a pair of helpers against the Maple Leafs. Impact: After contributing just one point in Pittsburgh's six-goal outburst Thursday, Malkin broke out in a big way Saturday. Not surprisingly, it came versus Toronto, against whom the right winger now has 47 points in 25 contests.(RotoWire, )

News: Malkin, who picked up an assist in the Pens' season opener Thursday, finished plus-1 with four PIM in 16:58 TOI against the Ducks. Impact: Malkin skated as a right winger, a move which figures to add to his versatility in fantasy circles. His 4:47 TOI on the power play was more than any other Pittsburgh forward, including Sidney Crosby (4:37 TOI). Malkin and Zach Sill were the Pens' only two forwards to finish without a shot on goal, but considering Malkin missed all of camp, he played well. The star forward averages 1.83 points against Toronto, Saturday's opponent -- his highest scoring rate against any team.(RotoWire, )

News: Coach Mike Johnston confirmed Malkin (undisclosed) would play at right wing in Thursday's season opener against Anaheim, Josh Yohe of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports. Impact: Malkin didn't turn in his first practice of the preseason until Tuesday, but the Penguins are comfortable enough with where he's at on the conditioning front to give him some run Thursday. However, because of his limited time in camp in adjusting to Johnston's new system, Malkin will be eased into action at wing. It shouldn't be long before he slots back in as the second-line center, but while he remains on the outside temporarily, he figures to see less than the 20 minutes of ice time per game he averaged under Dan Bylsma last season.(RotoWire, )

News: Malkin says he may be ready to go in time for Thursday's season opener against Anaheim. Impact: The former MVP skated with his teammates for the first time during training camp on Tuesday. Malkin sat out the first two-plus weeks of camp with an undisclosed injury. He called the issue "minor" and said he's in "great shape" but cautioned it's "50/50" on whether he'll be able to skate against the Ducks. (STATS, 1:24pm)

News: Malkin (undisclosed) practiced Tuesday for the first time this preseason, according to Dave Molinari of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Impact: Malkin was able to take part in all drills during the session, so it seems he is feeling fine after sitting out practice nearly the entire preseason. However, he still has some work to do to get into playing shape, so he is not a lock to play in Thursday's season opener. Malkin considers his chances of playing Thursday "50-50," so a final decision on his status may not be made until game day.(RotoWire, )
