News: Backes has been diagnosed with a concussion and is considered out indefinitely, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports. Impact: As the Blues feared when Backes hit his head hard on the ice Tuesday night, the captain suffered a concussion and will now be subjected to the league protocol. Coach Ken Hitchcock also said T.J. Oshie was out indefinitely with a concussion sustained Tuesday night, depriving the Blues of two of their top-line stalwarts. While Backes doesn't have an exhaustive list of concussions on his career ledger, the head injury certainly isn't foreign to him, making it tough to project how soon he may be able to return to the ice.(RotoWire, )

News: Not surprisingly, Backes did not participate in the Blues' practice on Wednesday, Lou Korac of the Blues' official site reports. Impact: The practice was only optional, so it's difficult to discern Backes' condition after being removed from Tuesday's game against the Stars with an apparent head injury. More likely than not, Backes remains in observation under the league's concussion protocol, which places his status for Thursday's game against the Ducks in jeopardy. The 30-year-old winger has scored two goals and contributed three assists in eight games played this season.(RotoWire, )

News: Backes was removed from Tuesday's game against the Stars with an upper-body injury and will not return. Impact: Backes fell hard and appeared to hit his head on the ice during the first period of action. He remained down on the ice for a while before finally ambling to his feet and heading to the locker room. He'll more than likely be evaluated for a possible concussion over the next 24 hours, putting his status in peril for the Blues' critical showdown with the Ducks on Thursday.(RotoWire, )

News: Backes netted a power-play goal and added an assist in Saturday's blowout win over Arizona. Impact: Backes has started the season with four points in his first four games, including two power-play goals. The top-line center also had three hits and four shots Saturday, a prime example of the value he provides in almost all fantasy categories. Backes appears destined for another 50-60 point campaign in 2014-15.(RotoWire, )
