News: The Minnesota Wild have agreed to terms on a five-year, $16 million contract extension with right wing Charlie Coyle through the 2019-20 season. Impact: The deal was announced Wednesday for the 22-year-old Coyle, who is in third season with the Wild. The 6-foot-3, 220-pound former first-round pick by San Jose was acquired by the Wild in a draft-day deal in 2011, when they sent defenseman Brent Burns to the Sharks.(STATS, 4:50pm)

News: Coyle signed a five-year, $16 million extension with the Wild on Wednesday, Michael Russo of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. Impact: The 22-year-old had just entered the final season of his entry-level deal, but he'll now be afforded some peace of mind with the five-year extension. A first-round pick (28th overall) in 2010, Coyle had a minus-7 rating but tallied 30 points (12G, 18A) in 70 games last season, and his speed and strong chemistry with teammate Mikko Koivu recently earned him a promotion to the second line.(RotoWire, )

News: Coyle was elevated to the second line at Tuesday's practice, Rachel Blount of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. Impact: Coach Mike Yeo is hoping that the addition of Coyle will provide an infusion of speed to a second line that has struggled to produce under the stewardship of regulars Mikko Koivu and Thomas Vanek, who have combined to tally one point in four games. Coyle demonstrated strong chemistry with Koivu while the two played together last season, so there's a good chance the move will prove beneficial for all three players involved in the arrangement.(RotoWire, )
