News: Muzzin (upper body) has been cleared to play Thursday against the Sabres, Elliott Teaford of the Los Angeles News reports. Impact: Muzzin said he's not quite 100 percent healthy, but the Kings' medical staff determined his condition was good enough to take full contact in game action. The blueliner missed the team's first six games with the upper-body injury, which he sustained late in the preseason.(RotoWire, )

News: Muzzin (upper body) will visit a doctor Tuesday and is expected to receive clearance to play Thursday against the Sabres, Lisa Dillman of the Los Angeles Times reports. Impact: Muzzin has been sidelined for the Kings' first six games with the upper-body injury, with the team giving no clear timetable for the blueliner's return until now. The Kings have resisted putting Muzzin on injured reserve while he dealt with the ailment, so no roster move will be required to bring him back in the fold. He's expected to rejoin the team's top pairing with Drew Doughty.(RotoWire, )

News: Coach Darryl Sutter said Muzzin (upper body) would receive an X-ray Thursday, Jon Rosen of LAKingsInsider.com reports. Impact: The date would mark a full three weeks after he sustained the upper-body injury during preseason action against the Avalanche. Muzzin, who inked a five-year, $20 million extension with the Kings on Wednesday, has resumed practicing with the team, but has yet to receive clearance for a return to games. Thursday's examination should offer a better indication of when we might see Muzzin back on the ice.(RotoWire, )

News: Muzzin (upper body) signed a five-year, $20 million extension with the Kings on Wednesday, Chris Johnston of Sportsnet reports. Impact: Muzzin hasn't appeared in a game this season due to an upper-body injury, but it's clear the Kings view him as a cornerstone player for both now and the future. The 25-year-old struggled in the early stages of last season, but he came up huge for the team in their run to the Stanley Cup, finishing second to only Drew Doughty in ice time during the playoffs. Once healthy, Muzzin is slated to rejoin Doughty on the top pairing, and should represent a capable producer at both ends of the ice.(RotoWire, )

News: Muzzin has agreed to a five-year, $20 million contract extension with the Los Angeles Kings. The defending Stanley Cup champion Kings announced the deal Wednesday. Muzzin's new deal keeps him with the Kings through the 2019-20 season. Impact: Los Angeles signed Muzzin as a free agent in January 2010 after he went undrafted in 2009, and he has evolved into a solid NHL defenseman over the past two seasons. He frequently plays alongside Drew Doughty in the Kings' top defensive pairing. Muzzin has 41 points in 132 regular-season games for the Kings, and he added 15 points in 43 playoff games over the past two seasons. He led all NHL defensemen with six playoff goals last season during the Kings' championship run.(STATS, 2:57pm)

News: Muzzin (upper body) participated in an optional skate Monday, but isn't likely to return until "maybe later this week," the Los Angeles Times reports. Impact: The Kings have been able to get an extended look at Brayden McNabb in Muzzin's absence, and it sounds like that'll continue, as Muzzin is set to miss at least a couple more days.(RotoWire, )

News: Muzzin (undisclosed) appears to be nearing a return, but continues to await clearance to play from team doctors, Jon Rosen of LA Kings Insider reports. Impact: Muzzin took part in some skating prior to Sunday's game against the Jets and seems to believe he's well-conditioned, but just needs clarification from the doctors that everything is sound on the health front. Brayden McNabb has taken his place on the defensive pairing with Drew Doughty for the past three games.(RotoWire, )

News: Muzzin said he expects to miss a few more games as a result of his undisclosed injury, Lisa Dillman of the Los Angeles Times reports. Impact: Muzzin's presence on the ice probably wouldn't have made much of a difference in the Sharks' dominant 4-0 victory over the Kings on Wednesday, but it's still not ideal for the team to be without a top-four defenseman for multiple games. Brayden McNabb filled in for Muzzin on Wednesday and will likely continue to do so for as long as he remains out.(RotoWire, )

News: Muzzin (undisclosed) is questionable for Wednesday's season opener against the Sharks, Jon Rosen of LAKingsInsider.com reports. Impact: The Kings will reevaluate Muzzin closer to game time, but if he's unable to go, Brayden McNabb would be called upon to join Drew Doughty on the team's top pair. Muzzin tallied five goals and 19 assists over 76 games last season.(RotoWire, )
