News: Reimer was happy to re-sign in Toronto after being told during negotiations that there was a "definite opportunity" to regain his starting role, according to Toronto's Sportsnet590 The FAN. Impact: Optimus Reims told the station on Monday morning that management will give him a chance to win the starter's job. This comes as a surprise to us, especially given how Jonathan Bernier performed last season. Perhaps this comes down to semantics and the exact definition of opportunity. His contract is still tradeable, although the Buds don't have much of a backup plan in place to replace him. Stay tuned.(RotoWire, )

News: Reimer and the Toronto Maple Leafs avoided salary arbitration, agreeing to a two-year contract Thursday. Reimer's agent, Ray Petkau, confirmed the deal on Twitter. Reimer, a restricted free agent, and the Leafs were scheduled to go to arbitration Monday. Impact: Reimer lost the starting job to Jonathan Bernier last season, but was forced into service with Toronto's playoff hopes on the line when Bernier sustained a knee injury that ended his season. The 26-year-old goalie was 12-16-1 with a 3.29 goals-against average last season. In four seasons with Toronto, he's 65-48-15 with a 2.85 GAA.(STATS, 4:21pm)

News: Reimer agreed to a two-year, $4.6 million deal with Toronto on Friday, Toronto Sun writer Rob Longley reports. Impact: After posting a 19-8-5 record in 2012 to go along with a GAA of 2.46, Reimer struggled last year, finishing with a GAA of 3.29 and a record of 12-16-1. The Leafs are banking on him returning to the form he showed in the three years before last, in which case he would be a useful backup to Jonathan Bernier.(RotoWire, )
