News: Updating an earlier report, Kessel will play Saturday despite leaving practice early with a stiff neck Friday, according to Sportsnet 590 The Fan. Impact: Kessel has been extremely durable over his career. He seems to know when to pull back during practices to keep from himself ready for games. Keep him active for Saturday's game, barring any unforeseen setbacks.(RotoWire, )

News: Kessel left Friday's practice early and could be dealing with an injury, Rob Longley of the Toronto Sun reports. Impact: The early exit didn't seem to be merely the result of an equipment issue, so it's probably worth monitoring Kessel's status heading into Saturday's game against the Red Wings. Kessel dealt with an undisclosed injury earlier this month but wasn't forced to miss any action because of it.(RotoWire, )

News: Kessel picked up an assist in Thursday's win over the Lightning. It was his first helper in eight games. Impact: He's still scoring goals, but it seems odd that this talented, yet underrated, playmaker hasn't gotten any helpers of late. And there was a funny Phil moment in the third -- Tyler Bozak set him up and he broke in toward Ben Bishop. But he actually missed his stick when he went to grip it with his bottom hand and ended up flubbing it toward the net. How do you miss your stick? Still, he remains in the NHL's to-five scorers and should do so in the foreseeable future.(RotoWire, )

News: Kessel snagged his 11th goal of the season in Saturday's loss to the Sabres. Impact: He continues to put up great production this season and should be an automatic roll. But keep an eye on him -- he tweaked his right ankle on an odd turn deep in the Sabres' zone. He was able to continue to play, but it might keep him off the ice for a couple days.(RotoWire, )

News: Kessel scored twice against Boston, and the Maple Leafs netted four goals during a nine-minute stretch to chase Vezina Trophy-winner Tuukka Rask on Wednesday. Impact: Kessel has four goals in four games.(STATS, 12:50pm)

News: Kessel scored twice Wednesday in a 6-1 win over Boston. Both were scored off the rush and the second stood up as the game-winner. Impact: He now has 10 goals and 11 assists in 16 games. He's tied with Tyler Seguin for third in NHL scoring and with Steven Stamkos for fourth in the NHL goal chase. Kessel may have the best wrist shot in the NHL -- that release is unreal.(RotoWire, )

News: Kessel extended his point streak to six games and 11 points (four goals, seven assists) in Saturday's 5-4 win over the Rangers. The goal came on the power play. Impact: He entered play Saturday third in the NHL in scoring. He now has 19 points in 14 games and is on pace to shatter his career mark of 82 points. Use him well.(RotoWire, )

News: Coach Randy Carlyle said after Saturday's morning skate that Kessel (undisclosed) would play later in the evening against the Rangers, Elliotte Friedman of Hockey Night in Canada reports. Impact: Kessel didn't take part in the morning session, but as Carlyle's words would suggest, it seems that he was only absence for maintenance purposes. While Kessel might not be 100 percent healthy entering Saturday's contest, fantasy owners aren't going to keep the point-per-game scorer on their bench.(RotoWire, )

News: Kessel (undisclosed) was absent from the Maple Leafs' morning skate and appears uncertain to play Saturday against the Rangers, David Alter of reports. Impact: Kessel missed some time in the third period of Thursday's game against the Avalanche with an undisclosed ailment before returning later on in the contest, so it was believed that his injury wasn't overly concerning. However, after he was held out of Friday's practice for maintenance purposes and wasn't able to take part in Saturday's morning skate, it doesn't seem to be a given that Kessel will suit up Saturday. Further complicating matters is that the Leafs will be playing a weekend back-to-back, which would seem to put Kessel at more risk than normal of aggravating the injury. It would still seem probable that Kessel suits up Saturday, but his status likely won't be known officially until pregame warmups.(RotoWire, )
