News: Sekera (upper body) practiced Friday. Impact: The extent of Sekera's involvement in practice isn't known, but with the Hurricanes' next game still four days away, it looks like there's a realistic chance he'll only miss one contest due to the upper-body injury. The team will monitor his progress in practices the next few days before determining his availability for Tuesday's game against the Jets.(RotoWire, )

News: Sekera (upper body) has been ruled out for Thursday's game against the Rangers, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports. Impact: Two days after suffering a nasty collision with the end boards, Sekera was on the ice for morning skate, but was apparently too sore for the Hurricanes to risk playing him Thursday. On a positive note, Sekera appears to have escaped serious injury, save for a few bumps and bruises. After Thursday's match, the Hurricanes won't play again until Oct. 21, which could afford Sekera enough recovery time before returning to the lineup.(RotoWire, )

News: Though Sekera (upper body) wasn't able to practice Wednesday, coach Bill Peters hasn't ruled him out for Thursday's game against the Rangers, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports. Impact: Sekera was cleared of any structural damage to his shoulder when he collided with the end boards Tuesday night, but Peters noted that while fairly close to a return, the defenseman is still "very sore." It seems more likely than not that the Hurricanes would hold Sekera out Thursday with a long break in their schedule to come thereafter, but the news is nonetheless encouraging for the blueliner, who looked to be at serious risk of a long-term absence.(RotoWire, )

News: Coach Bill Peters said that X-rays performed on Sekera after Tuesday's game came back negative, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports. Impact: While it appears Sekera was able to avoid structural damage to his body after colliding with the end boards in the first period of the loss to the Sabres, the blueliner's head and shoulder still absorbed significant impact. As a result, Sekera could face further evaluation for a concussion over the next several hours, putting his status for Thursday's game against the Rangers in peril.(RotoWire, )

News: Sekera was removed from Tuesday's game with an upper-body injury and will not return. Impact: Facing off against his former team, Sekera took a hard collision into the boards while attempting to deny a Sabres goal, with his head appearing to take the brunt of the blow. The Hurricanes will evaluate him with the hope that he avoided a concussion, but there's legitimate concern that he could miss some time. The Hurricanes are painfully thin on both quality blue liners, and any absence by Sekera would only further illuminate that deficiency.(RotoWire, )

News: Sekera dished out two assists, while logging a team-high 22:08 of ice time in Friday's loss to the Islanders. Impact: A good start for Sekera, who is coming off a career-high 11-goal, 44-point season in 2013-14. Although the Hurricanes will likely be challenged to score goals in 2014-15, Sekera can still be counted on for reliable point production, playing on the top defensive pairing and first power-play unit.(RotoWire, )
