News: Howard (groin) stopped 34 of 36 shots in his return to the net Tuesday versus the Canadiens. Impact: After he was ruled out for the past weekend with the groin issue, Howard looked to be back in his usual form Tuesday before folding late. The Red Wings controlled the game for the first two periods while holding a 1-0 lead, but Howard's shutout bid ended with just over three minutes remaining, as he lost sight of the puck on Alex Galchenyuk's game-tying tally. He would then yield the winning marker to David Desharnais in the extra period to take his second OT loss of the season.(RotoWire, )

In his last appearance, Howard allowed one goal on 24 shots in a win over the Maple Leafs.(RotoWire, )

News: Howard (groin) is ready to return and should be available for Tuesday's game against the Canadiens, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports. Impact: As suspected, Howard's groin injury was nothing major, and the reassignment of fellow goaltender Petr Mrazek means Howard should be good to suit up again.(RotoWire, )

News: Howard suffered a minor groin injury during Friday's win over the Maple Leafs and will not be available to back up Jonas Gustavsson on Saturday, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports. Impact: General manager Ken Holland suggested Howard's injury wasn't worrisome, and that the goalie would in all likelihood be ready to go for Tuesday's game against the Canadiens, but the situation still bears watching. Even minor groin concerns can often prove more problematic than initially thought, so Howard will need to show the requisite progress over the next couple of days before receiving clearance to play. As a short-term measure, the Red Wings placed Howard on the 48-hour goalie injured reserve, and in a corresponding move, recalled Petr Mrazek, who will serve as Gustavsson's backup Saturday.(RotoWire, )

News: Howard stopped 23 shots to help defeat Toronto 4-1 on Friday night. Impact: Howard, at least so far, had looked solid in net, sporting a 2-1-1 record with a 1.72 goals-against average. He will get the night off Saturday for the second half of a back-to-back, but he is entrenched in the starting position.(RotoWire, )

News: Howard will be in the net Friday against the Maple Leafs, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports. Impact: Seeking to prove that his disappointing 2013-14 campaign was an aberration, Howard has gotten off to a tremendous start to the season, going 1-1-1 with a 1.95 GAA and .927 save percentage over his three starts. The trio of strong outings has allowed Howard to keep backup Jonas Gustavsson off the ice to this point, but he figures to receive his first rest of the season on Saturday, when Detroit will again match up with Toronto for the second game of their back-to-back set.(RotoWire, )

News: Howard stopped 37 of the 39 shots he faced in Wednesday's shootout loss to the Bruins. Impact: Howard kept the Wings in the game with some spectacular saves, especially late in the third period with time winding down. Unfortunately, his luck ran out in the shootout when he allowed goals to both Bruins shooters, but his performance was impressive nonetheless.(RotoWire, )

News: Howard will be between the pipes for Wednesday's game against the Bruins, MLive.com reports. Impact: Howard will face the Bruins for the second time this season, which should be plenty fine with his fantasy owners and the Red Wings, given his 5-1-0 record and 1.97 GAA in six career starts against the Bruins.(RotoWire, )

News: Howard made 23 saves in a 3-2 loss to the Ducks on Saturday night. Impact: The winner was a heartbreaker -- it came on a tough backhander by Ryan Getzlaf with just 24 seconds remaining. Backhanders are the hardest shot to deal with because you can't read where they're headed, so Howard can certainly be excused for that goal. Continue to deploy him as you always have.(RotoWire, )

News: Howard will get the start in net Saturday against Anaheim, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports. Impact: No surprise here, as Howard played well in a 2-1 win Thursday against Boston. Detroit has to play a second straight Cup contender, but Howard has looked great so far and seems to be a safe fantasy play.(RotoWire, )
Thu. Oct 9, 2014
News: Howard saved 16 of 17 shots in Thursday's season-opening 2-1 win over the Bruins. Impact: Howard and the Wings may have benefited a bit from playing a Bruins team that had opened its season the night before with a win against Philadelphia, but hey, it's a good start for the 30-year-old netminder, who's coming off a season in which he posted his worst GAA and save percentage in three years.(RotoWire, )

News: Howard will be in the crease for Thursday's opener against the Bruins, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports. Impact: Howard made three appearances in goal during the preseason, going 2-1-0 with a 1.90 GAA while stopping 82 of 87 shots. The 30-year-old will enter this season with a lot to prove, after his numbers tailed off across the board in 2013-14.(RotoWire, )
