News: Laich (shoulder) could possibly rejoin the lineup Wednesday against the Islanders, Alex Prewitt of the Washington Post reports. Impact: Laich's return from injured reserve has hit numerous bumps in the road, but after the forward was able to work out with the team during the past two morning skates, coach Barry Trotz seems to have expressed more optimism about his possible return. The health-challenged Laich has played in just 66 of a possible 150 games (44 percent) over the last two and a quarter seasons.(RotoWire, )

News: Laich (shoulder) will not return to the lineup Tuesday against the Coyotes, Alex Prewitt of the Washington Post reports. Impact: Laich was able to participate in the Capitals' morning skate session, giving the forward an "outside chance" at playing Thursday against the Avalanche, according to coach Barry Trotz. The 31-year-old has appeared in just six of the Capitals' 18 games this season.(RotoWire, )

News: Laich (shoulder) practiced with the team Monday, Alex Prewitt of the Washington Post reports. Impact: The center has been struggling to stay in the lineup all season, and has only played one game since Oct. 18. Laich has an assist through six games, and fantasy owners would be wise to stay away from him until he proves he can stay healthy.(RotoWire, )

News: Laich (shoulder) was placed on the IR on Friday, although it was retroactive to Nov. 7 so he'll be eligible for reactivation Saturday, Mike Vogel of reports. Impact: Laich wasn't expected to make a return until Tuesday against the Coyotes at the earliest, so there's no update in terms of his actual health. That being said, there's an outside chance that he'll be available Saturday against Blues since he'll likely be activated from IR.(RotoWire, )

News: Coach Barry Trotz acknowledged Thursday that Laich (shoulder) won't be a lineup consideration until next Tuesday against the Coyotes, at the earliest, Alex Prewitt of the Washington Post reports. Impact: That effectively rules out the perennially injured Laich for the next two games -- the third and fourth consecutive contests that he'll have missed due to the shoulder ailment. The forward has been able to skate on his own, but hasn't rejoined the Capitals for practice just yet. If he's able to do that Monday, Laich would greatly improve his chances of returning to the lineup Tuesday night.(RotoWire, )

News: Coach Barry Trotz admitted after Wednesday's practice that Laich's (shoulder) potential return date is "probably a little unclear," Alex Prewitt of the Washington Post reports. Impact: Laich has been bothered by his shoulder since Oct. 18. He returned from a long absence to play a game last week against Chicago, only for the issue to crop up again. Though the forward was able to skate Wednesday for the second straight day, he's still experiencing limited mobility and strength in the collarbone area, which has prevented him from practicing. Laich, who had been dogged by groin injuries in previous years, now looks like he might have a recurring upper-body injury to contend with for the rest of the season.(RotoWire, )

News: Laich (shoulder) wasn't on the ice for Wednesday's practice, Alex Prewitt of the Washington Post reports. Impact: Both Laich and fellow injured forward Tom Wilson were able to take to the ice for Tuesday's morning skate, but the absence of both from practice Wednesday would seem to suggest neither has been cleared for contact just yet. The Capitals won't play their next game until Friday against the Devils, giving Laich another day to potentially practice and state his case for a return to game action.(RotoWire, )

News: Laich (shoulder) has been ruled out for Tuesday's game against the Blue Jackets, Alex Prewitt of the Washington Post reports. Impact: Laich was on the ice for Tuesday's morning skate in a limited capacity, sticking around afterwards for additional conditioning work. Barry Trotz left open the window for Laich to return to action for either or both of the Capitals' back-to-back weekend contests aganist the Devils and Blues, but the forward will probably have to get in a full practice before the team signs off on his return.(RotoWire, )
