News: Kuznetsov played most of the night alongside Brooks Laich and Troy Brouwer on the second line, garnering an assist in the Capitals' 5-4 overtime win over the Bruins on Friday. Impact: Kuznetsov is also looking like a feature player on the team's second power play unit. Kuznetsov is still competing with Marcus Johansson and Andre Burakovsky for the center job behind Nicklas Backstrom. Kuznetsov didn't display any of the offensive wizardry he's known to have, but he played a decent game. Given his offensive skills and the fact that his faceoff prowess is superior to his competition, Kuznetsov looks to be the favorite to take the reins of the Caps' second line on opening night, as well as an early favorite for the Calder Trophy this season. He has excellent sleeper potential.(RotoWire, )

News: Capitals head coach Barry Trotz indicated Kuznetsov and Marcus Johansson are going "head to head" for the second-line center position during a press conference prior to Monday night's preseason game against the Flyers. Impact: The declaration at least puts to bed some concern that Brooks Laich was also involved in the competition, but Trotz's words and Laich's appearance on the left wing during Sunday's preseason action against Buffalo seem to corroborate the idea that the second-line center job will go to either Kuznetsov or Marcus Johansson. A popular pick to win the Calder Trophy this season, Kuznetsov's value will certainly rise if he can win the job. Keep an eye on the situation, as the talented Russian is oozing sleeper potential at the moment.(RotoWire, )
