Colorado Avalanche Player News: Last 7 days, All Positions

News: Compher (thumb) was moved to injured reserve Sunday.
Impact: Although this roster move has been foreshadowed since Compher was taken out of Thursday's game with a broken thumb, we still don't have a clear timetable for his return. The 22-year-old was playing well in his sophomore season, notching four points in eight games, and will likely reprise his role of centering the third line when he recovers.
News: Jost (lower body) was placed on injured reserve Sunday.
Impact: This move doesn't come as a surprise, as Jost will miss 2-to-3 weeks with the ailment. He has a goal and an assist while averaging 13:33 of ice time through six games.
News: Bourque was recalled from AHL San Antonio on Sunday, Mike Chambers of The Denver Post reports.
Impact: With Colorado dealing with forward injuries to Tyson Jost (lower body) and J.T. Compher (finger), Bourque will likely serve as a depth forward. The 27-year-old spent the majority of last season in AHL San Antonio, but he has shown previously that he can handle a fourth-line role at the NHL level with Colorado and Nashville.
News: Greer (concussion) was summoned from the minors Sunday, Mike Chambers of The Denver Post reports.
Impact: If all goes well with his recovery, it sounds like Greer should return in the next week. The power forward played well for AHL San Antonio last season, notching 38 points in 63 games, while also playing in five regular-season games with Colorado. Since winger Tyson Jost (lower body) is out, don't be surprised if Greer receives some bottom-six minutes when he returns.
News: Jost is reportedly going to miss two to three weeks with a lower-body injury.
Impact: This is a tough setback for the 2016 first-round pick who had seen a recent increase in playing time but has only two points through six games.
News: Jost (lower body) will be out of the lineup for 2-to-3 weeks, Mike Chambers of The Denver Post reports.
Impact: That's some bad luck for Jost, as he was getting his first shot on the Avs' top line only to promptly sustain his ailment. Colorado will likely need to promote a player or two from AHL San Antonio after J.T. Compher (thumb) was ruled out indefinitely as well. In order to make space on the 23-man roster, the team will almost certainly designate Jost for injured reserve.
News: Kerfoot had two goals, including one on the power play, along with an assist in Thursday's 4-3 loss to the Blues.
Impact: The 23-year-old rookie was very aggressive, recording six shots after totaling just four through his first seven NHL games. More performances like this one could help his ice time increase and potentially make him a fantasy-relevant player.
News: Jost sustained a lower-body injury in Thursday's 4-3 home loss to the Blues, The Denver Post reports.
Impact: Colorado's medical staff was busy Thursday, as J.T. Compher broke his thumb on top of lower-body ailments to Patrick Nemeth and Jost, who packs plenty of promise as the team's 10th overall pick from the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. The severity of the 19-year-old's malady is unclear at this point in time, but fortunately for him, the Avs won't play again until Tuesday anyway. Consider him day-to-day until more is known.
News: Nemeth sustained a lower-body injury in Thursday's 4-3 home loss to the Blues, The Denver Post reports.
Impact: The Swede cannot catch a break, as he'd just returned from a shoulder injury. Nemeth posted three assists through the first four games, but he's caught in a three-game pointless skid with these ailments paying him absolutely no favors. However, the Avalanche won't play again until Tuesday's home clash with the Stars, providing him with ample time to recover from what appears to be a day-to-day ailment.
News: Comeau recorded a goal, three shots and four hits through 14:37 of ice time during Thursday's 4-3 loss to St. Louis. The tally was his first of the season.
Impact: Comeau is nothing more than a depth forward at this stage of his career, and he's currently being deployed in a fourth-line role. It's obviously not an ideal fantasy setup, and his 15 shots and 16 hits aren't moving the needle in the peripheral categories, either. It's safe to steer clear of Comeau in most settings.
News: Compher is out indefinitely after breaking his thumb in Thursday's game.
Impact: It appears an extended absence lies ahead for Compher, who has four points in eight games this season.
News: Bernier gave up four goals on 28 shots in Thursday's 4-3 loss to the Blues.
Impact: Bernier was perfect in the opening frame, but surrendered three goals in the second period and another in the third. While Semyon Varlamov's backup has won only one of his three starts in net, Colorado's decent start to the season suggests Bernier could at least have value as a streamer or DFS pick in the right matchups.
News: Kerfoot potted a power-play goal to go with an even-strength tally and an assist in Thursday's 4-3 loss to the Blues.
Impact: Kerfoot came in with just two points through seven games, but played a part in all three of his team's goals in this one. While the 2012 fifth-rounder was never considered a major prospect, he's making the most of his first chance in the NHL at age 23.
News: Compher broke his thumb during Thursday's game against the Blues, Bleacher Report's Adrian Dater reports.
Impact: The 22-year-old pivot will reportedly be sidelined for "awhile" with his injury, so the Avalanche will likely need to recall a forward from the minors to round out their depth up front for the foreseeable future. Compher has tallied three points in seven games this season.
News: Compher has been ruled out of the remainder of Thursday's game against the Blues due to a hand injury.
Impact: The severity of Compher's ailment is currently unknown, but Colorado doesn't play again until Tuesday, so he may not be forced to miss any game action. The Avalanche should release an update on his status in the coming days.
News: The Avalanche assigned Mironov to AHL San Antonio for a conditioning stint Thursday, Igor Eronko of Sport-Express reports.
Impact: The 23-year-old blueliner hasn't cracked Colorado's lineup since he logged 11:24 of ice time in the team's season opener, so he'll head to the minors to play himself into game shape before returning to the big club. Mironov likely won't produce enough offense this campaign to be considered a viable option in season-long fantasy formats.
News: Nemeth (shoulder) will return to action versus St. Louis on Thursday.
Impact: Nemeth was forced to watch from the press box just once due to his shoulder ailment. When healthy, the blueliner is logging only 17:16 of ice time per game, which may be higher than any of his previous season averages, but remains low for a blueliner. Chris Bigras figures to be a healthy scratch as a result of Nemeth's reintroduction to the game-day lineup
News: Bernier will defend the crease against the Blues on Thursday, Rick Sadowski of reports.
Impact: Bernier has made two appearances for the Avs this year in which he has posted a 1-1-0 record with a .912 save percentage. In his 10 career matchups versus St. Louis, the netminder has earned just four wins, despite logging a decent .911 save percentage. A fifth victory could be hard to come by as Alexander Steen (hand) makes his season debut and should bolster the Blues' offense.
News: MacKinnon scored a goal in the Avs' 4-1 loss to Nashville on Tuesday.
Impact: It took seven games, but MacKinnon finally scored his first goal of the campaign.
News: MacKinnon scored a power-play goal in Tuesday's 4-1 loss to Nashville.
Impact: MacKinnon was the lone bright spot in an otherwise dreadful performance from his team. The speedy center's first goal of the season actually gave Colorado a short-lived 1-0 lead, but the Predators responded with four unanswered goals while racking up a 34-21 advantage in shots. While he hadn't lit the lamp until this game, MacKinnon's off to a fine start with five points through seven contests.
News: Varlamov allowed four goals on 34 shots in Tuesday's 4-1 loss at Nashville.
Impact: Varlamov has been able to bail his team out a few times this season, but this ugly performance in front of him was too much to overcome. Nashville held a 34-21 edge in shots on goal and never really looked in trouble despite falling behind 1-0 early in the second period. While Varlamov has been in excellent form this season, it's hard to imagine him winning consistently if Colorado continues to give up an average of 32 shots per game like it has in his first five starts.
News: Nieto hasn't recorded a point through three games this season.
Impact: After promising rookie and sophomore campaigns with San Jose, the speedy winger has struggled to find offensive consistency the past two years, and he's even been a healthy scratch for two games this season. Until Nieto carves out a regular role and shows he can mark the scoresheet consistently, he's off the fantasy radar in the majority of settings. Considering his pedigree, it's surprising he's struggled so much the past few years.
News: Bigras has averaged just 13:39 of ice time per contest through the first six games of the season.
Impact: The 2013 second-round pick plays a low-risk game and will probably remain a depth defenseman for the Avalanche throughout the 2017-18 campaign. While Bigras posted huge offensive numbers in the OHL, his scoring hasn't translated to the professional ranks, and he also doesn't move the needle in any peripheral categories. There's a decent chance he develops into a serviceable NHL player, but it's unlikely he ever makes a significant fantasy impact.
News: Jost (knee) will return to the lineup for Tuesday night's contest in Nashville.
Impact: Jost is poised to return to the Colorado bottom six Tuesday after missing the last two contests with the knee ailment. The 19-year-old managed a goal and an assist in his first four games, but his opportunity is not fantastic on an offense that has improved, but is still not great.
News: Varlamov will be the starting goalie for Tuesday night's road showdown against the Predators, Mike Chambers of the Denver Post reports.
Impact: After a poor 2016-17 season that saw him post an .898 save percentage and saw him miss much of the year to a groin injury, Varlamov has experienced a renaissance to start the current campaign, posting a .944 save percentage and 1.76 GAA to go with his three victories. That said, the Predators are always a tough team to play in their home arena and they have already potted 10 goals in two games there so far, making Tuesday's matchup a potentially difficult one for the Russian netminder.
News: Nemeth (upper body) left the team to be treated by medical staff and won't skate against Nashville on Tuesday, Mike Chambers of The Denver Post reports.
Impact: The 25-year-old reportedly injured his shoulder in a fight with Tyler Seguin, and the ailment must be worse than previously thought if he was forced to depart Colorado's road trip. Nemeth had been off to a hot start to the 2017-18 season, averaging a career-high 17:16 of ice time while contributing three points in six games. Look for Anton Lindholm or Andrei Mironov to fill in during his absence.
News: Jost (knee) hit the ice for practice Monday in a normal jersey, Mike Chambers of The Denver Post reports.
Impact: Jost could be in line to slot back into the lineup against the Predators on Tuesday after a two-game stint in the press box. The center averaged just 13:12 of ice time through the opening pair of games, but did manage to snag a goal in his last appearance.
