The Winnipeg Jets signed Little to a six-year, $31.75 million contract extension, the team announced Thursday.
The 29-year-old Alberta native has logged 672 career games with the franchise since being selected with the 12th overall pick of the 2006 draft by the Atlanta Thrashers. He highlighted his time in Atlanta by netting a career-high 31 goals in 79 games during the 2008-09 season. Little resides second in club history for points (432), second in goals (184) and fifth in assists (248).
Little agreed to terms on a six-year contract extension with the Jets on Thursday, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Little's new deal will carry an average annual value of $5.29 million -- just $300,000 less per year than captain Blake Wheeler. The 29-year-old is coming off his fourth straight 40-plus-point campaign and should anchor the middle of the Jets' second line. Selected 12th overall in the 2006 NHL Draft, the Edmonton native saw a dip in ice time last year (17:33 per game), but he still averaged more than two minutes on the power play, where he notched six goals and six helpers. While Little might be outside the elite tier of forwards, he certainly can return fantasy value, especially as he continues to gel with linemate Patrik Laine.
