News: The Chargers play the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, and just like last year, Te'o is skipping the third preseason game with a sprained foot.
Impact: This summer the injury is to his left foot. Last year, it was his right. That injury in his rookie year forced him to miss the first three regular-season games and the final three preseason games. Te'o ultimately started 13 games and two more in the playoffs. The consensus was that he improved as the season progressed and he got further away from his foot injury, which required an offseason surgery.

News: Despite a less successful second preseason game that saw him rush nine times for only 14 yards, Oliver appears to be the favorite to lock down the No. 4 running back spot, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Impact: The undrafted rookie who reminds some people of a young Darren Sproles has been turning heads in camp as a rusher and a kick returner, but nothing has been decided yet. Sixth-round pick Marion Grice is still in the mix for the role.

News: Brown, who was originally sidelined when he strained a calf muscle on July 25, is still not practicing, the San Diego Union Tribune reports.
Impact: At the start of training camp, Brown was working as the fourth receiver, behind Keenan Allen, Eddie Royal and Malcom Floyd. With Brown not playing, Dontrelle Inman and Seyi Ajirotutu have rotated into the fourth and fifth spots. The third preseason game is traditionally the most important, and Brown will not be playing again. While it would still be a shock if he got cut, this is definitely not good news for him.

News: Verrett (shoulder) is expected to log his first NFL action during Sunday's preseason contest at San Francisco, Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Impact: The Chargers' first-round pick of the 2014 NFL Draft didn't make an appearance during the first two exhibitions due to his recovery from a torn labrum, but Verrett will factor into the defensive backfield Sunday. A significant number of snaps may be difficult to tear away from the cornerback duo of Brandon Flowers and Shareece Wright in his rookie season. Nonetheless, return duties haven't been promised to any Charger to date, a facet of the game in which the speedy Verrett could make an impact.

News: Floyd, now fully recovered from a career threatening neck injury, has been the MVP of Chargers training camp, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Impact: The biggest indicator that Floyd might be all the way back to pre-injury form is his willingness to line up as an inside receiver and catch underneath passes in addition to his typical deep patterns from the outside. The Chargers under Mike McCoy like to employ all of their receivers from multiple spots throughout the game, and Floyd has not batted an eye at moving around. A healthy Floyd combined with Keenan Allen and Eddie Royal could form a strong wideout trio.

News: Clemens completed 14 of 21 passes for 149 yards and two touchdowns in Friday night's exhibition loss at Seattle and the Chargers are happy to have him as their backup, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Impact: The Bolts did not play many of their regulars for long in this game, but the solid performance by Clemens is notable because it appears that he will serve as a more than capable backup option to Philip Rivers this year and might actually be an upgrade over former No. 2, Charlie Whitehurst.

News: As expected, Te'o (foot) missed Monday's practice and will not be available for Sunday's preseason game against the 49ers, but the injury is not thought to be as severe as the one that cost him five games last season, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Impact: This injury is completely unrelated to last year's, which occurred on the opposite foot, and Te'o thinks he has plenty of time to get healthy before the season opener. "Luckily it is the preseason," Te'o said. "Lucky we're early." While Te'o is out, the Chargers have a number of seasoned options to use in Kavell Conner, Reggie Walker and Andrew Gachkar.

News: Te'o suffered a left foot injury during Friday's preseason game against the Seahawks and is expected to miss at least the next week, NFL.com reports.
Impact: Te'o isn't expected to be able to play in San Diego's next preseason game, although details regarding the severity of his injury have yet to be released. The linebacker missed five games last season due to a right foot issue, which required corrective surgery this offseason. Now nursing a left foot problem, Te'o being sidelined temporarily opens a starting inside linebacker position next to Donald Butler for the Chargers.

News: Te'o is dealing with a sprained left foot and won't be available for the Chargers' upcoming contest against the 49ers on Aug. 24, ESPN.com reports.
Impact: It's unclear how much time he might miss beyond that, but it was Te'o's right foot injury that was an issue that cropped up during last year's preseason. Kavell Conner is a candidate for added work, should Te'o's current injury linger.

News: Ajirotutu caught one pass for 26 yards on two targets in Friday's preseason game against the Seahawks.
Impact: Ajirotutu wasn't targeted until the second half, which comes as no surprise. Malcom Floyd seems ready to step back in as a starter following last season's spinal cord injury, and Eddie Royal is still No. 3 on the depth chart. With No. 2 tight end Ladarius Green also expected to play a major role in the offense, Ajirotutu likely needs an injury or two in front of him in order to become a regular contributor.

News: Floyd caught two passes for 30 yards on three targets in Saturday's preseason game against the Seahawks.
Impact: Seemingly past the scary spinal cord injury he dealt with last season, Floyd is well positioned to reclaim his role as the starting wideout opposite Keenan Allen. Floyd worked in that capacity during Friday's game, as he and Allen were the only wide receivers targeted by Philip Rivers.
Fri. Aug 15, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Woodhead had six carries for 24 yards and one reception for five yards in Friday's preseason game against the Seahawks.
Impact: With Ryan Mathews sitting out, Woodhead got a few extra carries, working in tandem with Donald Brown. Now that he has both Mathews and Brown to contend with, Woodhead may have a hard time matching his 106 carries from last season, though he still figures to dominate the third-down workload.

News: Although Allen sat out practice Wednesday, the receiver claims he'll play Friday against the Seahawks, ESPN's Eric Williams reports.
Impact: Allen wasn't deployed in the Chargers' first preseason contest, but it looks as if he'll be ready to challenge Richard Sherman and the Seattle Seahawks on Friday night. He claims he's healthy, and although players can't be trusted 100 percent to diagnose their own health, the confidence he's exhibiting is encouraging. Fantasy owners targeting him as a WR1 likely want to see him at least run a few routes in the preseason, and it appears this wish will be granted.

News: Entering his second season, Te'o looks more comfortable and is staying on the field in more different formations as he takes on more responsibilities, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Impact: Te'o will be more of a three-down linebacker in 2014. It has been reported that he will be more involved in the nickel defense alongside Donald Butler. The Bolts feel like Te'o is ready to make a leap now that he has more experience under his belt. Te'o has picked up more on-route concepts and is anticipating and reacting more through play recognition. He is also showing more patience in his man coverage.
Tue. Aug 12, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Brown, who has already missed one exhibition game and might miss another, is in danger of dropping to the bottom of the depth chart, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Impact: There has been some rumbling that Brown could actually get cut if he doesn't perform soon, but that would be a major surprise because he played well at times last season and is already familiar with the offense. Still, Dontrelle Inman and Seyi Ajirotutu have been looking good in camp, so Brown needs to get on the field and remind the Bolts of what he is capable of doing sooner rather than later.

News: Flowers (undisclosed) practiced Saturday for the first time since July 30, Tom Krasovic of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Impact: A reason for the absence was never revealed, but Flowers missed five practices and Thursday's preseason opener against the Cowboys, which is significant for his prospects in the Chargers' secondary. In his only other stop in the league, he picked off 17 passes in 88 games with the Chiefs, while also racking up at least 59 tackles in five of six seasons. As a result, expect him to earn a starting job at cornerback.
Fri. Aug 8, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Inman caught three passes for 107 yards and a touchdown in Thursday's preseason opener against the Cowboys.
Impact: The San Diego Union-Tribune's Michael Gehlken said he would "almost" be shocked if Inman, a rookie UDFA, doesn't make the team. While Gehlken probably wouldn't be all that surprised, the point stands that Inman is having a strong camp, with his practices backed by a standout performance in Thursday's game. The Chargers' wideout group looks rather shaky behind No. 1 receiver Keenan Allen.
Fri. Aug 8, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Green caught both of his targets for 26 yards in Thursday's preseason opener against the Cowboys
Impact: Philip Rivers was on the other end of both receptions, as Green was a big part of the first-team offense. Yes, Antonio Gates is still around, but Green is capable of lining up all over the formation, and the Chargers lack talent at wide receiver behind Keenan Allen.
Fri. Aug 8, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Rivers completed all four of his pass attempts for 61 yards in Thursday's preseason opener against the Cowboys.
Impact: The only way things could have gone better for Rivers would have been if Ryan Mathews didn't lose a fumble at the goal line. In any case, the 32-year-old QB bounced back in a big way last season, and he'll have a similar supporting cast this time around. Keenan Allen has a full NFL campaign under his belt, while tight end Ladarius Green is being hyped as a breakout candidate.
Fri. Aug 8, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Brown gained 22 yards on three carries in Thursday's preseason opener against the Cowboys.
Impact: With Danny Woodhead mostly a threat in the receiving game, Brown would likely handle most of the rushing workload in the event of a Ryan Mathews injury. As is, Brown may have to settle for just a few touches per game, though he's making quite a bit of money for such a role. Mathews may be in more danger than expected, and he didn't do himself any favors by losing a fumble at the goal line Thursday night.
Fri. Aug 8, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Mathews had five carries for 19 yards and lost a fumble at the goal line in the preseason opener against the Cowboys.
Impact: The fumble looked like a bit of a fluke, but it's definitely not good to see from Mathews, who has had problems hanging on to the ball in the past. Also, red zone efficiency is an area the Bolts are desperate to improve this season, so this was not a great start for them. Still, Mathews and the starting offense looked good in limited action overall.

News: Oliver, who shined in Thursday's preseason opener, may challenge sixth-round draft pick Marion Grice for a roster spot, the San Diego Union-Tribune's Michael Gehlken reports.
Impact: Oliver was the star of Thursday's preseason game against the Cowboys, rushing for 64 yards and a touchdown on seven carries. While he may push Grice for one of the final roster spots, Oliver is still stuck with a team that has Ryan Mathews, Donald Brown and Danny Woodhead.
Thu. Aug 7, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Grice, who worked as the No. 4 running back in Thursday's preseason opener, may not make the final roster, the San Diego Union-Tribune's Michael Gehlken reports.
Impact: Ryan Mathews, Donald Brown and Danny Woodhead are locks to make the roster, while undrafted rookie Brandon Oliver not only worked ahead of Grice in Thursday's game, but also showed exactly why. Grice finished with 35 yards on a team-high 14 carries, and Oliver need just seven totes to pick up 64 yards and a touchdown. Grice, a sixth-round draft pick out of Arizona State, will likely draw interest from another team if he fails to make the Chargers. He caught 91 passes for 863 yards in two seasons at Arizona State, in addition to piling up 1,675 rushing yards on 294 carries (5.7 YPC).

News: Guy had to leave Thursday's game with a shoulder injury and is questionable to return, U-T San Diego reports.
Impact: It's unlikely that Guy will return to the field since the Chargers will need his services throughout the long haul of the regular season. He's currently in line to provide depth behind the defensive line starters.
Thu. Aug 7, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Liuget (foot) will not play in Thursday's preseason opener versus the Cowboys, U-T San Diego reports.
Impact: Liuget was forced from Tuesday's practice with a foot problem and sat out Wednesday's session as well. The defensive end will continue to rest during the Chargers preseason opener, which should allow Damik Scafe and Sean Lissemore increased reps early on.
