News: Nix (knee) was placed on the PUP list Monday, Fox 26 in Houston reports.
Impact: The third-round pick out of Notre Dame is dealing with a knee injury suffered during OTAs and will likely miss at least part of training camp.

News: Cushing (knee) was placed on the PUP list Monday, Fox 26 in Houston reports.
Impact: Cushing suffered a broken leg and torn LCL in October, but less than two weeks ago, he vowed he'd be ready for the start of the regular season. Players can come off the PUP list at any time, so Monday's news isn't much of an indication as to whether or not he'll suit up in Week 1.

News: Williams (knee) was released by the Texans after a failed physical Monday, ESPN reports.
Impact: Knee surgery kept Williams out all of last season, and he was limited in the team's OTA's last month. It appears the Texans have moved on, so he'll look to latch on with another team as a free agent.

News: Su'a Filo will be part of a battle for the starting left guard position, CSN Houston reports. His main competition will be third-year veteran Ben Jones.
Impact: Su'a Filo did not participate in organized team activities because he was finishing out his class work at UCLA, but he was around for the three-day minicamp in June. As such, he was a bit behind in learning the team's offense. Su'a Filo was taken with the first pick in the second round, a spot where teams expect an offensive lineman to become an immediate starter.

News: Jackson lined up as a slot cornerback during the preseason and will continue to get reps there in training camp, CSN Houston reports. "I think it's going pretty good," Jackson said of playing on the inside. "Definitely a lot of fun in there, a lot of opportunity, a lot closer to the ball so I definitely have some chances to make some plays and stuff. It's been fun and I think I've been learning pretty well."
Impact: Many observers were impressed with how Jackson handled the transition from outside to inside. The Texans secondary, under new coordinator Romeo Crennel, is expected to be less straight-forward than it was under Wade Phillips. There will be less man-to-man and more flexibility in terms of changing assignments from play to play and even after the ball is snapped.

News: Clowney (groin) still hasn't been cleared to start training camp, the Houston Chronicle reports.
Impact: Clowney, who underwent sports hernia surgery in June, said Friday that he hopes to be green-lighted by next Saturday, which would allow him to take part in the team's first preseason practice.

News: Four teams have reportedly expressed interest in trading for Johnson, according to NFL.com.
Impact: Meanwhile, the report indicates that Johnson has expressed a desire to play for another team, but at this stage it doesn't seem as though the Texans are inclined to move the wideout, especially given that dealing him would saddle the team with $11.96 million in dead money against the 2014 salary cap. While there is still time for Johnson (who is under contract through the 2016 season) and the Texans to patch things up in advance of the team's July 25 training camp reporting date, it's very plausible that this potentially testy situation could linger beyond that time.

News: In reference to the prospects of participating in the Texans' upcoming training camp, Johnson -- who missed all of the team's offseason workouts, indicated Wednesday, "hopefully. We'll see what happens. Training camp's three weeks away, so we'll see what happens," NFL.com reports.
Impact: Johnson, who has "had conversations with the organization" about his future with the Texans, has expressed frustration with the direction of the team this offseason. Moreover, when asked if he would be on the field against Washington in Week 1, Johnson remained non-committal, saying, "I don't know. I can't answer that question." In any case, Johnson -- who turns 33 on Friday -- is under contract with the Texans through the 2016 season. Given his comments, the wideout's situation is worth monitoring in the coming weeks, though it may not be until training camp (the Texans' reporting date is July 25) that we get a more accurate read on his status with the team heading into the 2014 season.

News: While Cushing (knee/fibula) isn't sure when he will return to the practice field, he's confident that he will be ready to start the season, the Texans' official site reports. "I know I'll be ready," Cushing said Tuesday. "I know when it's go-time, and I need to ramp it up and get on the field, I'll be there."
Impact: The last time Cushing suited up for the Texans was last October, but the linebacker continues to progress in his recovery and remains on track to reclaim his starting inside linebacker spot in advance of Week 1. Prior to suffering his injury in Week 7 of the 2013 season, Cushing racked up 48 tackles, a pick and 1.5 sacks.
