News: Mays will compete with Robert Blanton, Andrew Sendejo, Antone Exum and Anthony Harris for a starting safety role next to Harrison Smith, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Impact: Blanton started 13 games last year but lost the job in December to Sendejo. Mays' ability to play in the slot could give him the most snaps at the position even if it's given a committee approach.

News: Mays agreed to a one-year contract with Minnesota, ESPN 1500 AM Twin Cities reports.
Impact: Mays played for head coach Mike Zimmer when Zimmer was defensive coordinator of the Bengals from 2011 to 2013. He could start next to Harrison Smith at safety.

News: The Vikings have agreed to terms on a contract with Mays.
Impact: Mays was a second-round draft pick out of USC by San Francisco in 2010 and traded by the 49ers the following year to the Cincinnati Bengals, where he played three seasons under defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer. Zimmer has started his second year as coach of the Vikings. Mays will likely compete with incumbent Robert Blanton for a starting spot next to Harrison Smith.
