Garcon, Meriweather set to play Sunday

Published Nov. 16, 2012 12:00 a.m. ET

Washington Redskins receiver Pierre Garcon and safety Brandon Meriweather appear set to play Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Coach Mike Shanahan says after Friday's practice that both will play barring any setbacks over the weekend, giving the Redskins a badly needed big-play receiver and an even more badly needed starting-caliber safety.

Garcon tore a ligament in the second toe of his right foot in the season opener and has been struggling with the pain ever since. He returned to play in two more games before missing the last four.

Meriweather hasn't played all season because of sprained ligaments in his left knee. He was ready to return in Week 4, but he reinjured the knee in a pregame collision with teammate Aldrick Robinson.
