No one can seem to get Redskins QB Kirk Cousins' name right

Published Sep. 4, 2015 1:53 p.m. ET

The Washington Redskins announced a new starting quarterback earlier this week and his name is Kirk Cousins. That's Kirk and not "Kurt", but several reports and the Redskins players they cover can't seem to get it down pat just yet.

Don't worry though, Cousins doesn't mind. In fact, he even has his own explanation for why people keep mistaking his name.

“For whatever reason, I think it rolls off the tongue a little more easily than my real name,” Cousins said, per The Washington Post. “There’s a lot of ‘K’ sounds going on when you pronounce my name, so I think Kurt might be a little easier. It’s certainly a more common name to just say Kurt, but you know, I don’t let it get to me too much, it’s okay, but I appreciate your guys’ commitment to excellence and the attention to detail to make sure you get that right.”
