With the Monday Night Football game having little impact in the NFL’s hierarchy, here is the updated AFC and NFC Playoff pictures through Week 5.

With the results of Monday Night Football being played between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-3) and the Carolina Panthers (1-3) guaranteed to yield no club over .500, we can safely give an updated NFL playoff picture through Week 5.

Here is the AFC Playoffs picture:

The Pittsburgh Steelers are the top seed in the AFC through Week 5. Pittsburgh is 4-1 and atop the AFC North. The Steelers’ lone loss is to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 5. They are 1-0 in AFC North play, 3-0 at home, and 3-0 in the AFC.

The Oakland Raiders are the No. 2 seed in the AFC at 4-1. They get the slight tiebreaker over the Denver Broncos by being 1-0 in the AFC West. Oakland’s lone loss came in Week 2 at home to the Atlanta Falcons.

The New England Patriots come in as the No. 3 seed in the AFC at 4-1. Their lone loss came in Week 4 to the AFC East rival Buffalo Bills. That gives the Steelers and the Raiders the tiebreaker entering Week 6.

The Houston Texans are 3-2 and get the No. 4 seed in the AFC thanks to being the best team in a terrible AFC South. Houston has two losses on the year to New England in Week 3 and to the Minnesota Vikings in Week 5. Both of those losses came on the road for the Texans.

Getting the two Wild Card berths in the AFC are the Denver Broncos and the Baltimore Ravens. Denver suffered its first loss of the season to Atlanta in Week 5. Ironically, Oakland’s only loss this season came to the same Falcons.

Oakland has the edge over Denver by beating the San Diego Chargers in Week 5 for its first AFC West victory. The Broncos haven’t played a division game thus far and have the No. 5 seed in the AFC.

Baltimore gets the No. 6 seed at 3-2 by holding the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Buffalo Bills, also 3-2. The Ravens beat the Bills at home in Week 1. Baltimore has lost two straight after starting the year out 3-0, but remain in Wild Card contention.

Here is the NFC Playoff picture:

The Minnesota Vikings are the only undefeated team left in football. They are a perfect 5-0 and in control of the NFC North. The Vikings would have home-field advantage in the NFC Playoffs if the season were to end today.

Earning the No. 2 seed in the NFC would be the Dallas Cowboys. Dallas is 4-1 and in first place of the NFC East. They Cowboys’ lone loss came in Week 1 to the NFC East rival New York Giants at home. Dallas holds a slight tiebreaker over the Atlanta Falcons by having a better record against NFC opponents.

The Atlanta Falcons would be the No. 3 seed in the NFC. They are in first place in the NFC South at 4-1. Atlanta’s lone loss came in Week 1 at home to the division rival Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Falcons have won four straight games, including contests against last year’s Super Bowl teams in back-to-back weeks: the Carolina Panthers and the Broncos.

The Seattle Seahawks benefit from a Week 5 bye to be in first place of the NFC West at 3-1. Having the Los Angeles Rams lose in Week 5 to the Buffalo Bills gives the Seahawks a slight half-game lead over the Rams in the NFC West.

If the season were to end today, the two NFC Wild Card teams would be the Green Bay Packers and the Philadelphia Eagles. Green Bay gets the No. 5 seed over the Eagles by having a better record in the NFC over Philadelphia.

The Packers are 3-1 on the year with their lone loss to the Vikings on Sunday Night Football in Week 2 at US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. The Eagles lost their first game of 2016 to the Detroit Lions on the road in Ford Field, 24-23.
