Osi Umenyiora married his longtime girlfriend Leila Lopes over the weekend, and it took the couple only a matter of hours to encounter their first obstacle.

Shortly after the wedding, an anonymous Instagram account was createdfor the sole purpose of outing Umenyiora as an alleged cheater. The person running the account shared several text messages that he or she claimed were sent back and forth between Umenyiora and his supposed mistress as recently as last week.

The account has since been deactivated, but Bro Bible captured several screen shots.

Umenyiora insists all of the text messages are fake, and he and Leila released a joint statement on Tuesday.

“We strongly condemn the vicious and malicious lies that have recently been perpetuated all over the media,” the statement read, via Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports. “We already know that these lies are a coordinated effort by a single unstable MALE source to malign and discredit an otherwise joyous and highly successful occasion. An appropriate legal recourse is currently in effect.

“We are pleased to report that the expected result from this individual has been an abysmal failure. We are fortified, strong, and extremely happy. We look forward to a prosperous life together. We would like to thank our family and friends for all your support.”

The internet can be a dangerous place, and Umenyiora is not the first NFL player to be accused on social media of cheating. If the texts were fake, we’re happy that Osi and his new bride are moving past it. And if not, Umenyiora needs to start using his head.
