Titans tight end to talk to NFL about $30,000 fine

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) Titans tight end Chase Coffman insists running into a Ravens' assistant was an accident and he will talk to the NFL about his $30,000 fine.

Fox Sports first reported the fine Sunday. Coffman spoke Monday night after the Titans lost 27-24 to Pittsburgh and says he has talked to Tony Coaxum, an assistant to Baltimore's special teams coach. Coffman says any team would be mad when one of their people is hit.

''It was an accident,'' Coffman said. ''I was off balance. I've already talked to Tony about it, the coach that I ran into, and we've both moved on. I'm going to leave it at that and talk to the league about it when that time comes.''

Coffman started Monday night for Tennessee with tight end Delanie Walker deactivated as he recovers from a concussion that knocked him out of the Titans' loss at Baltimore on Nov. 9. Coffman caught a career-high three passes and had a touchdown reception.

Titans coach Ken Whisenhunt says Coffman came to him after the loss at Baltimore and told the coach he inadvertently hit the assistant trying to get back on the field to chase an interception. Whisenhunt says Coffman tried to find the coach after that game to apologize, and the Titans coach reached out to Ravens coach John Harbaugh and general manager Ozzie Newsome.

''I guess they chose to go ahead and pursue it the other way,'' Whisenhunt said. ''I know Chase isn't that kind of football player. We've had discussions about it. I know he was upset, it's unfortunate. Nobody has approached him about his side of it. If you look at it, and you see the whole play, he was trying to stop and inadvertently ran into that guy.''
