Tim Shaw signs 1-day contract with Titans as he battles ALS

Tim Shaw, a six-year NFL linebacker who was released by the Titans in 2013 shortly before he was diagnosed with ALS, has returned to Tennessee on a one-day contract so he can retire with the team.

Shaw, 32, was a fifth-round pick of the Panthers in 2007 and spent one season with Carolina, Jacksonville (2008) and Chicago (2009) before finishing his career in Tennessee from 2010-12.

He began noticing a decrease in speed and coordination in 2013 training camp and was diagnosed several months later. Further into battling the deadly disease, he gave a motivational speech to current Titans players Sunday night, according to the team's website:
