Titans' dormant ground game comes alive in win over Jaguars

The Tennessee Titans' running game, which was virtually non-existent in the team's loss to Oakland last week, played a major role in Sunday's 42-39 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Titans ran for 210 yards in the win over Jaguars, led by Marcus Mariota's career-best 112 yard-performance. The rookie quarterback scored a touchdown on an 87-yard run in the fourth quarter. This, in contrast to last week, when Tennessee was only able to muster a combined 44 yards on 18 carries in the 24-21 loss to the Raiders.

But the Titans' rushing success wasn't just limited to Mariota. Starting running back Antonio Andrews ran 13 times for 58 yards and a touchdown, while rookie David Cobb carried the ball 13 times for 40 yards against the NFL's sixth-ranked run defense.

“I thought (Andrew and Cobb) were both productive,” Titans interim coach Mike Mularkey said, per the Tennessean. “I thought our guys did a good job of scheming. That’s a really good defense — a very good run defense — and we were not far from hitting some bigger runs."

As the Tennessean notes, the 210 yards rushing marked the Titans' best performance since a Nov. 23, 2009 game against the Houston Texans when team ran for 228 yards.
