RB Sankey gets another shot with Titans

The season-ending injury to Tennessee Titans running back Dexter McCluster has once again opened the door for fellow running back Bishop Sankey to make an impact with the team.

The Titans placed McCluster on injured reserve Monday after six-year veteran broke his wrist in Sunday's 30-9 loss to the New York Jets. Tennessee interim head coach Mike Mularkey said Monday that Sankey figures to see increased playing to over the final three weeks of the season with McCluster out. McCluster had seen time as backup running back along with returning kicks and punts on special teams.

The first running back selected in the 2014 draft, Sankey has failed to establish himself thus far in his NFL career. The former second-round draft pick has just five carries over the Titans' last nine games, having fallen behind Antonio Andrews, David Cobb and McCluster on the team's depth chart. His last carry came in the team's Nov. 15 loss to the Carolina Panthers.

“We’re talking about it, but I’d think that’d be Bishop’s opportunity to come in and have a chance to play that role that Dexter was playing,” Mularkey said

Sankey has 41 carries for 166 yards and touchdown this season. He's also caught eight passes for 73 yards and another touchdown.
