Steelers sign 38-year-old James Harrison to two-year extension

James Harrison will be 39 years old in May, but he’s showed no signs of slowing down. He was one of the Steelers’ most consistent pass rushers in 2016, and they’ve rewarded him with a new contract – one that’ll keep him around for two more years.

According to ESPN, the deal is worth $3.5 million over the next two years. Harrison confirmed the news on Instagram.

If Harrison plays out the entirety of the contract, and there are no indications he won’t, he’ll be 40 years old when it’s all said and done. As one of the oldest players in the NFL right now, it’s remarkable to think a player can sustain the success he has into his 40s.

Just this past season, he had five sacks, his third straight year with at least five in a season. Excluding his one year in Cincinnati, Harrison has recorded five or more sacks in nine straight years with the Steelers.
