Steelers safety Mike Mitchell still recovering from offseason groin surgery

Published May. 27, 2015 1:29 p.m. ET

Steelers safety Mike Mitchell is still working his way back from offseason groin surgery.

Mitchell reported that he still occasionally feels pain from the injury, but he's "pretty much good to go," according to the Associated Press

Mitchell is coming off a disappointing first season in Pittsburgh, where he frequently drew the ire of fans for not living up to expectations during the first season of his five-year, $25-million deal. Mitchell revealed after the season-ending playoff loss against Baltimore that he was dealing with a torn groin all season, but he refused to use it as an excuse.

"I'm not making excuses, I’m not apologizing for anything," Mitchell said at the time per ESPN.com. "One thing we don’t do here in Pittsburgh is we don’t seek comfort. Everyone plays hurt."

Mitchell played in every game last season despite the injury, and finished with 71 tackles and no interceptions.
