Steelers News: John Mitchell, Eli Rogers, Maurkice Pouncey
The Steelers head into their bye week coming off of two losses with an injury list about a mile long.
While the team recovers from their injuries and gets some much-needed rest we’ll be busy looking for mentions of your Black & Gold so we’ve got you covered. Here’s your Steelers Morning Huddle for Thursday, Oct. 27th.
Who’s panicked? Not me
Pittsburgh’s defense started strong this season by excellently displaying the bend but don’t break mentality with allowing only two touchdowns through the first two games. We ignored early signs that pressures on the quarterback weren’t leading to sacks and that turnovers weren’t coming.
Now, it might seem like it’s time to be worried. If the offense isn’t 100 percent (i.e. if Ben Roethlisberger is out an extended period of time) the defense can’t give this thing away. Mike Prisuta has defensive line coach John Mitchell’s comments about staying calm and sticking with the plan.
“We just have to go out there and play the way we’re capable of playing, execute the technique, execute the call and we’re going to be alright. I’m not panicked. ‘Coach Buts’ {Def. Coord. Keith Butler} isn’t panicked. This defensive staff isn’t’ panicked. We know where we are. We know what we have to do.” – John Mitchell
Is it just me or did he say “panicked” a bit too much for a guy that claims to not be panicked? I’m sure it’s fine.
Whadya do bro?
For a team with an injury list as long as Pittsburgh’s it seems weird that there would be a “healthy scratch” from a game as important as last Sunday’s against the Patriots. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler that’s just what receiver Eli Rogers was on Sunday.
There’s no official determination as to why Rogers was absent from the game but Fowler hinted that there could have been some disciplinary issue with Rogers from the coaching staff. Roethlisberger talked about needing Rogers to “stay focused” during his radio show on Tuesday.
Gonna need to you to stay focused bro. Roethlisberger just needs to sing Beyoncé’s “Irreplaceable” to any receiver not named Antonio Brown. You don’t want to be here? Everything you own in a box to the left.
What does he got that I ain’t got?
Courage. That’s what Maurkice Pouncey has. For coming back from a lower leg injury that led to seven required surgical procedures he has been named the Steelers’ Ed Block Courage Award recipient.
Maurkice Pouncey's love of football helped him fight back and win the Ed Block Courage Award.

Pouncey will receive the award on Nov. 15th at the 24th Annual Arthur J. Rooney Sr. Courage House Luncheon at Heinz Field. The luncheon will benefit Holy Family Institute. You can actually purchase tickets to attend the luncheon right here.
If you do, please report back about the food.
