Kam Chancellor calls contract holdout 'petty'

Published Sep. 10, 2015 12:25 p.m. ET

More details have emerged regarding the Seahawks and Kam Chancellor's contract holdout.

NFL Network's Dan Hellie reported Chancellor told him the two sides are less than one million dollars apart, and Chancellor is willing to meet Seattle halfway.

However, from a team standpoint, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported the Seahawks are worried about a precedent they'll set for future player negotiations, should they cave in to Chancellor's requests.

Hellie also reported Chancellor described the negotiations as "petty," and just wants his salary currently allocated in 2017 to be moved to the 2016 season.

The strong safety is set to earn a base salary of $6.8 million in 2017 and $5.1 million in 2016, according to OverTheCap.com

Whatever the holdup is over Chancellor's contract, the Seahawks are prepared for Week 1 without his services.

The coaching staff has been pleased with Dion Bailey, who is expected to be starting alongside Earl Thomas in the secondary at St. Louis.
