Holmes carted off with injury

Published Sep. 30, 2012 1:00 a.m. ET

The New York Jets 2012 season can’t get any worse.

On top of an inept offensive performance against the San Francisco 49ers, the Jets lost their franchise wide receiver Santonio Holmes to a left foot injury in the fourth quarter against the San Francisco 49ers. Holmes was unable to put pressure on the injured foot and needed assistance getting off the field. He was declared out for the remainder of the game.

Holmes crumbled to the MetLife Stadium turf on a bizarre non-contact injury and fumbled the ball, which 49ers cornerback Carlos Rogers scooped up for a score. Holmes was carted into the locker room to undergo further evaluation.

This injury comes one week after cornerback Darrelle Revis suffered a torn ACL on a similar looking play.

The Jets’ offense must rely on Chaz Schilens, Jeremy Kerley and recently re-signed receiver Patrick Turner.
