Chip Kelly will be 49ers coach next season 'regardless of what happens' in 2016

There’s been some speculation surrounding coach Chip Kelly’s job security with the San Francisco 49ers with the team sitting at 1-10. That chatter has increased recently due to the fact that the head coaching spot has opened up at the University of Oregon with Mark Helfrich getting fired.

It wouldn’t have been completely surprising to see Kelly bolt from the 49ers for his old gig, but according to FOX Sports NFL insider Jay Glazer, that’s not going to happen. Kelly, who coached Sunday despite his father's death Friday, will remain the head coach of the 49ers no matter what next season.

“He is not going to Oregon and regardless of what happens down the stretch here, Chip Kelly will be the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers next year,” Glazer said.

The 49ers have been a mess this season, but they’ve gotten some stability at quarterback lately thanks to the re-emergence of Colin Kaepernick. Though he’ll reportedly opt out this offseason and become a free agent, the 49ers could re-sign him and keep him together with Kelly for another year.
