San Diego mayor, Chiefs owner will meet to talk Chargers stadium

San Diego mayor Kevin Faulconer will meet with the owner of a hated Chargers rival if it helps to keep the team in town.

So, he'll chat up Chiefs chairman Clark Hunt in an attempt to sway his relocation allegiances when he comes to town this weekend, according to U-T San Diego's David Garrick.

"It’s an opportunity to speak directly and have the ability to answer questions and share information," Faulconer told Garrick, adding that there’s no substitute for face-to-face contact.

Faulconer's battle might be the most contested one in San Diego this weekend. He'll have to go a long way to convince Hunt and his owner contemporaries to abandon the leading candidate for Los Angeles relocation.

He's prepared to go the extra mile. Hunt will be the fifth member of the NFL’s committee on Los Angeles opportunities that Faulconer has met with individually.

Time will tell if his face-to-face meetings will trump the NFL's desire to return to L.A.
