Chargers' Inman shows 'encouraging' progress after scary neck injury

Published Dec. 7, 2015 7:21 p.m. ET

Dontrelle Inman lay motionless on the Qualcomm Stadium turf for seven scary minutes.

It took even longer for the team to know their receiver's prognosis. They're calling it a neck injury now -- but claim it's not the catastrophic kind that fans feared when Inman left Sunday's Chargers-Broncos game on a cart.

Inman showed 'encouraging progress' and movement in all extremities, according to head coach Mike McCoy via U-T San Diego's Michael Gelhken.

The hit that forced Inman out wasn't even flagged. But Broncos safety David Bruton might hear from the league offices about his first quarter, helmet-to-helmet collision with Inman.

The injury left San Diego with only three healthy receivers. They'll hope Inman can return eventually to make it four again.
