Chargers' rookie Melvin Gordon breaks through in Bengals loss

Published Sep. 22, 2015 12:37 a.m. ET

Melvin Gordon waited three years at the University of Wisconsin before he finally broke through.

A two-game wait? Evidently, that's nothing to the breakout Chargers rookie.

Gordon tallied 88 rushing yards on 16 carries. Three of those carries went for 20 or more yards -- the first time that's happened in San Diego since LaDainian Tomlinson did it in 2007.

“It felt good,” Gordon told U-T San Diego's Michael Gehlken. “It always feels good to break one. You don’t get many in the League. When you do, you try to make the best of them.”
