The New Orleans Saints have seen enough of former first-round pick C.J. Spiller, releasing the veteran running back Tuesday, just 18 months after signing the 29-year-old.

"It's the first week, but I guess that's why you have to expect the unexpected. But you know what, I leave on good terms," Spiller said, via ESPN.

"This organization really believed in me during free agency. They gave me another opportunity when my contract was up in Buffalo. I have nothing but good relationships that I have built here. It's a first-class organization that gives the players everything they need to be successful. So, I definitely don't have any hard feelings."

Spiller started just two games for the Saints in 2015, rushing for a career-low 112 yards on 36 carries. He finished the season on injured reserve due to knee issues.

Spiller, who will walk away with $9 million for 13 games in New Orleans, was on the inactive list Sunday against the Raiders.

The former Clemson star was drafted ninth overall in 2010 by the Bills, spending his first five years in the league in Buffalo. Spiller split time with Fred Jackson while with the Bills, eclipsing 200 carries just twice in his first four seasons.
