The Buffalo Bills have the longest playoff drought in the NFL, but Rex Ryan says it won’t last much longer.

The Bills haven’t played a game under their new coach yet, but Ryan is confident that the 15-year postseason hiatus will end this season. Ryan told ESPN.com as much before playing in a charity softball game at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday.

“I think we’ll be in (the playoffs) this year,” Ryan told ESPN, later adding, “I can guarantee you one thing: Teams aren’t going to want to play us, I can tell you that much. You’ll see.”

Buffalo made some significant editions this offseason, including running back LeSean McCoy, wide receiver Percy Harvin and tight end Charles Clay. Its defense also was ranked fourth in total defense last season and gave up the third-fewest passing yards per game with 205.8.

But with Matt Cassell, EJ Manuel, Matt Simms and Tyrod Taylor, the Bills’ quarterback situation is a mess. Still, Ryan didn’t seem too concerned, telling ESPN it’s “not an ideal situation or there already would be one guy there. But we have enough talent there so that, when it’s all said and done, we’ll be fine.”

Despite Ryan’s confidence, the Bills’ quarterback situation really makes it tough to call them a sure bet for the playoffs, especially with them playing in the AFC East with the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots. But what is certain is that Ryan isn’t going to back down.

“Will I have a chip on my shoulder?” Ryan said. “Absolutely, and it will be fun. I know one thing: We ain’t hiding, we ain’t hiding from anybody — New England, the Jets, anybody else. We’ll take on all challenges, and I’m looking forward to it.”
