Rumor: Cleveland Browns re-sign Rannell Hall

The Cleveland Browns made a roster move on Friday by re-signing wide receiver Rannell Hall, who missed the 2016 season with a broken leg.

The Cleveland Browns made a minor roster move on Friday as they reportedly re-signed wide receiver Rannell Hall.

The 6-foot-2 Hall was with the Browns during the preseason in 2016 but suffered a broken fibula in the preseason opener against the Green Bay Packers and was lost for the season.

Hall had two receptions for 27 yards that night against the Packers and had caught the attention of wide receivers coach Al Saunders during training camp. While it was unlikely that he was going to make the final roster prior to his injury, Hall obviously did enough to warrant the Browns giving him another look now that he is healthy.

The Browns originally signed Hall off the Tampa Bay Buccaneers practice squad late in the 2015 season. He was on the Browns active roster for the final three games of the season and made his lone appearance in the season finale against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Tampa Bay signed Hall as an undrafted free agent out of Central Florida in 2015. He appeared in 49 games for the Knights, totaling 145 receptions for 2,051 yards and nine touchdowns.

He appeared in the final three preseason friendlies for the Buccaneers, earning a start in the preseason matchup against Miami. He had eight receptions for 104 yards in the preseason, including two catches for 16 yards against the Browns.

His best collegiate season was his junior year, when he caught 57 passes for 886 yards and five touchdowns from current Jacksonville quarterback Blake Bortles.

Hall’s production dropped as a senior, as he only had 49 receptions for 500 yards and did not catch a touchdown pass, although part of that can be attributed to him missing three games with injuries.

While Hall does not possess one single skill that sets him apart from other wide receivers, he does have a willingness to do whatever his coaches ask of him, making him the type of player who could earn a special teams role.

Hall joins a crowded roster that includes wide receivers Mario Alford, Josh Boyce, Corey Coleman, Andrew Hawkins, Rashard Higgins, Jordan Leslie, Ricardo Louis, Dennis Parks, Jordan Payton and Terrelle Pryor.
